XBOX Fall Update?

i have a feeling it'll be much more checks so they can ban cheaters on games like GeOW and Halo 3 and the modders.

Probably, just nothing too significant leaked yet.

A guy got a replacement console with IPTV stuff seemingly enabled on it, though it was current software, just a bug/fluke that it was selectable in some of his options screens.

How is it even possible to cheat on xbox games. I know how easy it is for people on pc's to cheat. i.e...CS. But cheating on xbox live is possible?

Think that was a troll post more than anything based in reality. Any cheating on Live is more things like boosting, where you set up games designed so you win and inflate your stats.

Certainly not PC-like antics.

Maybe a little update with their system, like bringing up friends list faster, because even now (on the 2nd xbox 360) the friend list loads little slow, sometimes it freezes for 3-5 seconds.. If they fix that I will be more than happy..that is probably the only problem I have.

is live down for you right now?

I wonder if they are doing the update tonight because xbox.com and xbox live on my console will not come up.

No I'm sorry I'm no troll. If you look on youtube you can see many videos of people that did some mods to gears of war and halo 2 that allowed them to get the upper hand in those games. ALso if you didn't know about tne console banning from live then go search on google or something to read about it. I feel the next update will include more checks to ban more consoles from live.

Any further more I own 2 xbox360s and no ps3 so I'm not some stupid ps3 fanboy tolling the xbox forums looking for a fight.

Another rumor is that they will start releasing original Xbox games on the live arcade for 1200 points

From Major Nelson:

Fall Dash update coming next week (Dec. 4th.)

It was just confirmed that the Fall Dashboard update will be released next Tuesday, December 4th. One of the new features that will be part of the release is ‘Friends of Friends.’ With this new features, you’ll be able to browse the friends list of anyone on your Xbox LIVE friends list and send anyone on your friends list a friends request. We’re also adding a ‘Friends List’ setting in the Dashboard* and on Xbox.com to allow you to control who can see your friends list.

-Everyone (only available to members 18 and older)
-Friends only (available to members 13 and older)
-Blocked (available to all members, and automatic for anyone under the age of 13)

It’s important to mention that when the dashboard update is released, the new default setting will be Everyone (assuming you are of age). For those members that not want to share their friend list, we’ve added a page on Xbox.com that is available today where you can modify this setting as you see fit. If you want to keep your friends list private, you can sign into Xbox.com now at www.xbox.com/fof and change the setting to Blocked (if you so desire.) This gives you a full week to decide which setting you would like for this new feature.

If you want to fully embrace the new feature, you don’t need to thing except wait for the update next week.

[Read the press release on Xbox.com]

*This setting will appear in the dash next week with the update.

Edit: No this is not the only feature for the fall update. There are more, but this is all that is being released at this time (along with the previously announced Xbox Originals) I also clarified that you have to be over 18 to have this set to everyone when it launches next week.

I am really excited about the "Friends of Friends" option. I already have the max of 100 and would like to add more.

Will be initially convenient, but then not used all that much IMO. People who don't have full friends lists (100 people) will fill them a little more with relevant friends of friends and then it will be a forgotten feature for most.

Hoping/wondering what else will be included aside from this, timer, and Xbox Originals... usually at least a couple of interesting things added and these 3 don't qualify for me.

I belong to a group of Mature gamers that has about 200 members, so for us this is great. I would rather have more friends but I guess this will have to do for now.

Layout changes appease my 'there has to be more' feeling to a degree.

Xboxic » Some Fall Update details leaked

* Top level of “Marketplace” has been reorganized and reduced to four categories: “Featured Content,” “What’s New,” “Game Store,” and “Video Store” (below top level, categories will be navigated by twist, just like the Game Library)

* “Personal Profile” added to Gamer Profile; text field allowing approx. 500-1000 characters, providing space to publish name, nationality, region, and self introduction. (Further social networking tools to accompany ‘Friends of Friends’ functionality)

* XBLA demos deleted from “Played Games” and Gamercard lists

All the original sources are Japanese so it’s not easy to make out what is going on, however there are some great shots of the new (Japanese) layout as well as evidence of the Xbox Originals pages.

There’s a new, twisting layout on the way to make browsing the Dashboard just that tad bit easier. The “Game” blade is being re-worked, removing the “Xbox Live Arcade” part, and replacing it with a “Games Library” tab. Opening up said tab, you can peruse all your XBLA games, demos and your recently played games, all navigated via the “twist” motion, as witnessed on the Video Marketplace (something new for Europeans then). It’s a bar that runs along the top in a horizontal fashion with different categories for the content.
