Why change a thread about WGN HD into yet another Voom thread?

Because WGN America is another network that will air absolutely nothing worth watching, unless you are a baseball/Cubs fan. The Blackhawks will be blacked out as per NHL mandate.

Without VOOM, I have been doing a lot of reading. Finished two books this week.

Yet another channel that is subject to opinion. I grew up watching Tom Skilling and the other folks on the 12 o clock news. Even though they are not HD now, I do beleive that someday they will be. If nothing else, it is one more channel that we have under our belts, not to mention, now the people that are HD only subscribers will get it.

At this point, other than the WFN, I think there is good in every channel that has been added, and I am sure there are a least a few souls out there that enjoy WFN.

Dumb question, but where (package-wise) will this be located? Will you need to subscribe to the superstations to get it?

No on the supers. WGN is not considered a supersatauion and was not in that package even when it was.

If you received WGN before and have HD service you will receive the HD version. Sorry we were just providing an answer that we were sure of.

Not necessarily true. The everything pack includes NBA TV, if you just have HD essential, you do not get the HD version

I am happy to see WGN America HD added for Cubs, White Sox, and Bulls in HD. I am a little concerned that those events will be the only HD content on this channel.

Is WGN a CW affiliate? If so, does that mean CW shows produced in HD such as "Aliens in America" will be in HD on this channel?

The local WGN isa CW affilaite but this natiaonal channel does not show that programming. So you wan't themm in SD or HD.

As a Cubs fan, I'm happy to see that we'll finally be getting WGN HD. It's just too bad it isn't today so I can actually watch the game tonight in HD. It's also too bad that CSN gets half the games now.

Speaking of, a good reason D* doesn't need WGN America HD: they've already got the MLB package, so if you want HD, they can make you pay for it that way.

WGN America is a weird combination of Local and National.

Most of the Cubs and White Sox games that are on WGN local would be on WGN America. Some of the Bulls (Not all) games would be on WGN America. And I have heard that some of the Black Hawks Games.

Other than that, None of the CW content would be on WGN America. So WGN America would be mostly syndicated stuff. Some new, some reruns. Kinda like TBS.

Locally, I was expecting Dish to pick up WCIU (Channel 26) as well in Chicago. Then they could say that Dish has All of the White Sox, Bulls, Cubs, Bears and Black Hawks games in HD, a statement that D* cannot make at this time.

I get them all over the air, but it would have been a good marketing opportunity for Dish. And still might be.

They could also add Illinois football and basketball games to that, because at this point Comcast does not carry BTN.

To be very clear, there are two WGN broadcasts, one is the CW network in the Chicago area, the other is what is WGN America (was Superstation WGN) also out of Chicago, but is available to anyone who may want it. The programing schedule is much the same as Chicago's CW station except it shows different programing (movies, series and such) instead of the CW broadcasts.

If you live outside the Chicago DMA, maybe.

But if you live in the Chicago DMA

and

The Cubs or White Sox game is on WCIU or WGN

and

You have Directv and not OTA

YOU can't get the Cubs or White Sox game in HD. You can't get local market games on MLBEI. So you would not have access to it in HD.

WGN America looks a lot like the current "superstation." Choke full of repeats of repeats.

Line up includes:

Scrubs
Reno 911!
Funniest Home Videos (lots of them)
Funniest Pet
Corner Gas
Becker
Crosby Show
Matlock
Homicide:*
Nash Bridges
Happy Days
couple hours of religious programing
lots and lots of Paid Programs

If Dish had WGN local and WCIU ( Channel 26 ) Dish would not have all the White Sox and Cubs games in HD. Dish does not show all the CSN Chicago games in HD. So far this year a few CSN games have only been in SD on Dish. The program guide does not show tonights White Sox game will be shown in HD. And Dish has not shown any of the Cubs or White Sox games that are on CSN Chicago + in HD.

I have an OTA so I get all the games in HD; except when Dish does not have the CSN Chicago game in HD.

Dish could say they have all the White Sox and Cubs games in HD. It would not be true. But, that is not a problem for Dish. That said, I am happy with Dish. I like the VIP 622 receiver and the current HD programming. But, I was happier before they dropped Voom.

I live in the chicago DMA and I can

1. Get local market games on MLBEI, its not blacked out
2. I can see games in HD as D* does get WGN9HD and CCSNCH in HD.
3. I can get WCIU, but its via antenna.
4. When games are on WGN or WCIU, I can get WGN9HD and see the games there. WCIU requires an antenna to get. I think that clears everything up.
