DISH NETWORK® UNVEILS BIGGEST HIGH DEFINITION UPGRADE IN TV HISTORY

This has been one heck of a good day. I was scrollign through my new movies favorites list, and could not believe how many commercial-free, unedited choices I now have in HD. Its pretty darn sweet.

Soon it will be time for External HDD # 5. :D

wow. and from what i read in your signature your drives are 2TB? you must love movies. you must be happy with all the new HD premiums too huh?

where's planet green 9457/194?

the sd channel is available to me but the hd is hidden?

It's nice to see HD but all I got were HD versions of SD channels I rarely watch. More "premium" movie channels with endless repeats. How many more times must we see Die Hard franchises etc. There are so few real HD versions of theatrical movies being played anyway by any movie network. When will they play the original uncut movies, commercial free in real HD? Where's the compelling content?

But for the small minority that can take advantage of the 1080p what really improved today for the majority of subs given costs vs. other HD distribution formats- D*, Fios, IPTV, Netflix etc.?

The advertising gimmicks are getting old too. From metal to turbo, what will next year bring?

Good news- enough lemmings will fall for this driving other providers to search for content and services to differentiate themselves from the others and the rest of us consumers will benefit.

Then dust off your library card and go read a book....

Not seeing the new Starz HD channels

I am not seeing the following with the new HD channels:
Starz Comedy HD (Ch. 354)
Starz Edge HD (Ch. 352)
Starz Kids & Family HD (Ch. 356)
Starz West HD (Ch. 351)

Receiver is a ViP722 with no locks.
The above do not even show in the "All Channels"guide.

Any clues?

Rich

Someone asked about the resolution of the new channels. I checked about eight of them and they were all 1440x1080i. CBS C was 1280x720p60 though. Also I checked HDNet and it was still MPEG-2, not H.264.

Resolution isn't everything though, "Lost" on ABC is 1280x720 but it looks better than anything I've seen from Dish, as the average bitrate is probably somewhere north of 15Mbit/sec.

Starz Kids & Family HD problems

On Starz Kids & Family HD, the picture keeps going to a black screen for about 2-3 seconds every couple of minutes. Very annoying:mad:
