After speaking with a senior TSR today, I was curious why, in set up, I hadn't seen a 1080p option?

It isn't a valid option, presently...

He explained, 1080p only applies presently to PPV/VOD that resides on your HD (High Definition) STB (Set Top Box) DVR (Digital Video Recorder).

NOTE: Those of you without HD STB DVR capabilities, are out of compliance, at present.

The content is residing on your HD STP DVR, and it is encoded to query your connection via the STB's HDMI connection. When, and only when, your STB HD DVR is MPEG-4 compliant and is connected via HDMI to your monitor, and your monitor is 1080p capable, is the only time, at present, you will see 1080p content.

PPV/VOD via HD STB DVR only...

The content is streamed, overnight, to your STB HD DVR, and resides on its HD. When you elect to purchase that film, it takes approximately 30 to 40 seconds prior to the film initiating as it checks via phone line or ethernet, and conforms connection and equipment.

Again, this is not live streamed content. It already exists on your STB HD DVR.

He stated, it is Dish's intent to make more 1080p content available, when available. When? That'll depend on when providers end up feeding 1080p content.

Reality, it should be more advantageous to push 1080p at 24 frames, as one would assume, mathematically, it would actually save bandwidth...

Thanks but this has been covered already.....SEVERAL times....

Thanks for the reminder, but newbie's may have trouble understanding.

I know I was a bit confused, you may not be.

Scott is absolutely right, it is in 1080p at 24fps, but again, it only pertains to PPV/VOD, at present.

Consider, it's now out in the open, in plain English, with a header, that says so...

Then maybe we should mention that few if any of us have the software downlaoded to our receivers.

Even though this info is already available in other threads, I appreciate your posting it here so others don't have to search 2-3 very long threads to find it.

BTW did the CSR say how many, and where exactly on the STB HD DVR, these "turbocharged" 1080p programs will be stored?

FCom always posts about 4 to 6 hours after the same subject that has already been addressed in another thread dedicated to the same subject. He represents the crowd that is unable to follow through on reading an entire thread or paying attention to anything Scott has said. I found it slightly annoying earlier on but now I think it probably reduces questions from those who can't read.

:)

it just cracks me up how folks pounce on a thread when it doesn't jive with their feelings on how things should be done on a message board...

was the information posted in another thread already? sure...but why jump on this guy's case over posting information that HE found useful and others might, as well?

i just think it is funny...you take the time to come and post in the thread that you don't think should be here in the first place...

just made me think of this...

Dude, you are so negative. If you find it so annoying then don't read post by this op.

Of course, those of us that have never managed to get our hands on a receiver with a working HDMI port are out of luck :D

In the reserved petition.

I am hearing up to 7 movies will be stored at a time when things get up to speed.
Thanks Scott.

I didn't realize that the reserved partition on my ViP 622 was large enough to hold 7 movies at 1080p24f. And if it is, I really would like to be able to use that space for something I would ever consider watching -- like My Recordings :)

1. I wasn't talking to you. You are free to ignore anything not meeting your criteria.
2. Read my whole post before condemning me, I said I found that his posts although repeatitive probably helped in the long run.
3. YOUR POST has nothing to do with this thread EITHER.

BTW: Of course it reminds you of the comic; it's what you are doing now.

How come E* can download these large 1080p/24 titles to our DVRs overnight but take weeks to download software updates which are smaller in size? What's the diff? Me no understand.
Patches download after they have been tested and signed off, and then queued for certain receiver lot numbers and not all at one time to help stagger the inevititable problems that will occur regardless of how much testing is done.

1080p24 actually takes less space than 1080i30, even less than 720p60.

1080i30 = 62 million pixels per second (full screen refresh).
720p60 = 55 million pixels per second (full screen refresh).
1080p24 = 50 million pixels per second (full screen refresh).

Of course compression algorithms substantially reduce the total amount of data for each resolution, but for comparison purposes these numbers will do.

Actually 1080p24 should be possible OTA and via satellite with little trouble. It is a part of the ATSC specification built into EVERY ATSC HDTV tuner. OTA it's just too much trouble to switch data rates at the station, over satellite...
