I was 13 during the '71 series, and I idolized Clemente. To me, no one came close. And when Maz hit his homerun in 1960, I crapped my pants. I was only 2 at the time.

I didn't really start getting into them until I was about 8. They were hardly ever televized in those days (the mid 60s), so I would listen to them with my Dad on the AM radio in his car (burning up with the windows roled up by the 2nd quarter because of the Louisiana mosquitoes ). I could only picture in my mind what all the noise and excitement in that radio must've looked like, but I knew I was hooked.

I finally got to see them play live at Tiger Stadium in Sept., 1972 against Wisconsin. Bert Jones was the star attraction. I've been a diehard fan ever since.

One hundred years ago today, the Cubs won their last World Series by defeating the Detroit Tigers four games to one.

Well, we try not to think of it as the last. We're hoping for another one someday.

Twenty years ago today, #4 Notre Dame knocks down a two-point conversion with 45 seconds remaining and holds on to beat #1 Miami. Defensive end Frank Stams leads a Notre Dame defense that forces seven turnovers. The game, hyped as the "Catholics vs. Convicts," ends the Hurricanes' 36-game regular season win streak. The Irish go ont to win their only national championshop under Lou Holtz.

The fact that people painted these guys so negatively makes me sick. I can't believe people were so racist in the 60s!
