strangest thing happened saturday morning. suddenly, i lost digital optical audio on one dvr and hdmi on the second. tried numerous different cables and nothing. pardon me if this sounds stupid but could the output recpticles just go bad? or is it more likely the output recpticles are dirty, need cleaning and are preventing a solid connection? thanks.

yep.........although i should probably try another hard reset on both dvr's. i was growing more frustrated by the moment and just wanted a pic on the one dvr. i had to eventually switch to component.

the reboot didn't help. i thought maybe the b-band connectors had gone bad but i shouldn't be able to get even ah hd picture with component cables, correct.

i have extra b-band connectors don..........

what's baffling is that i watched numbers on that dvr without any problem. hooked up two exptra components to my home theater system this morning which involved relocating one of my hr-20's and all of a sudden, i got problems!

good point, if it were bad b-bands, i wouldn't get anything in mpeg4. anyhow, i just posted in the tech forum at directv.com. hopefully, someone has a clue. i would hate to call directv because they will give me every excuse why they won't replace the dvr's, although i have the protection plan.

just reading over at dbstalk and numerous members are reporting similar problems since receiving the latest software downloads. i received mine this morning!

Yeah we have threads here also... my HR20-700 hasn't had any problems I have found yet, but I have watched more Dish than Direct Since I got the upgrade yesterday morning... (catching up on archives)Btw, my phone died so giving it a charge before activating the new receivers via the automated mode... will call them later as didn't want to wait...

I would try pulling the entire power cord and disconnecting the optical audio for about 30 mintues.

Reboot everything, hookup the audi. Check the settings menu under Audio->Dobly and make sure it turned on.

If that fails, try downloading the software again (reboot and enter 02468 at the very first blue screen).

If still no love, something is wrong with the software release and your receiver working together. Post what receiver and stereo receiver you have so D* can look into it.

i rebooted the dvr with the bad audio and its working fine now. still having problems with the hdmi on the other dvr.

jason, should i try your above suggestion with the second dvr?

Have you verified these connection inputs on the TV function fine with another HDMI source? ie HDDVR/Bluray/XBOX360/Playstation3/Wii?

yep. its sounding more and more like it was something with the latest software upgrade. at least one other person at dbstalk is reporting an identical problem with mine!

Iceturkey,
I would go ahead and reboot the other DVR that is having trouble as well. :)
Let us know if it helps.

Also, you CAN go to Component cables and have HD just fine, it just requires a audio connection as well.

jimbo,

i am using component on the dvr i can't get the hdmi. the audio problem on the other was solved with a reboot!

probably not until monday morning. was watching recorded stuff this morning, then football.

hard reboot failed. tried to force another software download and nothing happened. guess, i'm calling directv monday morning.

called directv and they are sending a replacement dvr. can't believe i talked with a csr who said.....``sounds like you took all the necessary steps.'' amazing!

they are few and far between, don, but i have talked to a few who were very helpful and not combatative. i explained to her about my disabilities and that i can't swap out the dvr's so she said she could send a tech. that's what they always have to do but you would be surprised at the grieve i usually get when i ask. i actually had one csr accuse me of faking so i wouldn't have to do anything myself!
