Why no international news channels on Dish?

We hear all this rhetoric about "global economy" and free trade by our bright politicians. However, I see no trace of any international news feeds in our world here in the US. I only see local Fox, CNN and other regurgitated news over and over again. They show Larry King live like 5 times a day with repeat guests.

Case and point .... how does one get Dish to add "CNN International" and some European news feed channel with real people (not the auto-piloted Euro news!) such as BBC News feeds from Europe.

These channels will be good, if for nothing else, to provide more insight and education into Europe and Asia - we will get a better understanding of other cultures, etc.

Any information will be appreciated ;)

You can watch BBC World news channel on the Internet.

As far as CNN, they have had live feeds from Mumbai for the last 24 hours, so you have picked an odd day to complain.

I still think EuroNews would make an AWESOME alternative news addition to America's Top 250. I totally agree that with the number of international and generally alternative news channels available, Dish Network has no excuse not making something available. Who wants to bet that whoever adds BBC World News first will reap some healthy rewards? BBC World News is something I can remember being requested when I first registered on these forums, AND there are rumblings BBC World News HD could be launching too. CNN International is another well known brand that people would appreciate. Even Deutsche Welle provides their service to Dish Network for such a nominal fee, that Dish could provide DW TV to a basic package if they didn't wanna gouge their international customers.

It's surprising that the "European Bouquet" which is a basic service in the satellite and cable TV markets in Asia is being marketed as a premium (international) package here in the U.S.

In the Philippines, the following channels are offered in the basic lineup:

TV5 France
RTP Portugal
TVE Spain
RAI Italy
DW Germany
Australia Television
BBC World News
CNN International
NHK Japan

I have come to the conclusion that the government/media complex here have control of what the public see and hear, and don't want anything unfiltered to be readily available to the average viewer.

I miss a few years ago when CNNi would air from midnight until 6am on CNNfn, as well as all weekend long on that station. When CNNfn wen't off the air, there was hope that perhaps Dish and Time Warner would replace CNNfn with CNNi but it never happened. It is one of the few stations that I would be willing to dish out some money for since DirecTV, Dish Network nor my local cable company carry the station - and I know they can because CNNi is carried by Time Warner Cable in a lot of regions...

there is the euronews channel. its only a 1.99 a mnth a la carte, but requires 118.7. i think it is still on 61.5/148, but with all the internationals that have moved, not sure if they are still there are for how long.

I want International channels on Dish, not on the internet. International feeds are a perfect filler for CNN today, being Thanksgiving. My point is why is Dish not offering CNNi or BBC or other English newsfeeds (other than the unmanned Euronews). If I wanted alternatives, I would not be posting my question.

100% right.

You cant even see Bugs Bunny or Boobs on TV here.

yet when there have been options (International options) that Dish should add....like Al Jazeera English, which has nothing to do with the original Al Jazeera channel all hell broke loose with "I dont want that crap on my TV" posts

CNN

I was watching CNN around 430 or 5pm today, and it WAS CNN-I. Maybe for only that one hour, or half but it was there. I was watching on the big dish, of course, maybe DN has something else. If the OP wants world news, he should get a KU system with an FTA receiver. Or complain to dishnetwork about the lack of 'other' news.

I know its off topic but I guess I can explain this...

From 5pm until just now (its just about to be 9pm), CNN North America (the one we get on Dish Network) was simulcasting CNNi. This was SOLEY because of the ongoing international event in India. CNN North America had orignally planned to air from 5-8pm some documentaries that they had produced on Obama on others, and at 8pm had intended to have a special edition of Larry King Live which has since been bumped. After Anderson Cooper last night (so come midnight ET) they also decided to simulcast the CNNi feed. This isn't the first time CNN North America has done this, as they often will simulcast the CNNi feed when events outside of North America are occuring and CNN has decided that it is in the best interest of both the network and the viewers to maintain an up-to-date live feed as opposed to showing the overnight repeats of Anderson Cooper 360, Larry King and Lou Dobbs. Personally, I wish they would do this all the time after midnight but since there is no west coast feed, I guess that until 2amET it makes sense for them to repeat the programming as a 'West Coast Primetime' feed.

Anyways, the point really is that Dish Network could add CNNi to its lineup and it would appease many who want more diverse news broadcasts, even though there are some who will say it is a waste of bandwith.

For better or for worse, it did, as Al Jazeera, again for better or for worse, has a stigma to it that a lot of people don't appreciate. I can understand their views and I am sure this may have played a factor in why Dish Network never did launch this station. The best way to resole this - and who knows one day it still may - is that it would be an a la carte station ,OR it can be included in a speciality tier, OR it could be included as part of a bigger tier but only enabled upon customer request.

If you have ever had the 'pleasure' of seeing the EuroNews broadcasts, you would understand why many are not including it as a true international news network. [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euronews"]Euronews - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Translation_arrow.svg" class="image"><img alt="Translation arrow.svg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2a/Translation_arrow.svg/44px-Translation_arrow.svg.png"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/2/2a/Translation_arrow.svg/44px-Translation_arrow.svg.png[/ame] on Euronews actually has a good explination as to why...

Euronews is currently broadcast in eight languages; English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Arabic, however not all languages are available in all countries. This multilingual approach prevents the use of on screen anchors, leading Euronews to use voice-over narration to accompany its news footage.

I watched Euronews a bit when it first launched. It seemed to repeat itself every half hour. And the lack of on-air talent, live field reporting, & in-depth interviews made it kind of boring. I really don't watch CNN, FOX, or MSNBC, except during the election. Now, they are all back to the same old stoies: Dangerous Weather/Fires, Missing Children in some town 1800 miles away from me, and celebrity gossip. I get all my World News in the car on Sirius, which carries BBC World, World Radio Network, & CBC One.

I would love to see BBC World or CNNI on Dish, but I am sure the cries for Speed-HD outweigh my tiny voice. Now they are downsizing the International Channels, so I can predict where this is going...

There may be legal restrictions with BBC news, since it is licensed at a pretty hefty price to PBS stations. A lot of livestation restrictions are due to licensing - itv can not be shown in the US because of they show a number of US programs which can not be retransmitted to the US.
That said, there is english news, e..g., CCTV from China, KBS news from Korea, etc/\.
