no offense or anything, but I have seen HD porn, and it is not a pleasant thing to watch. SD covers up a lot of the more disturbing flaws on the typical porn stars body.
I realize it may just be me, but I am not really interested in seeing track marks on the performers in a porn. kind of a gross out.
Interesting point - perhaps you never saw real naked woman in your bed !

Actually, Playboy HD has been around for quite awhile. It was on the VOOM listings when that was active. When it was active on VOOM most of the porn movies and low budget stuff were all in SD upconvert but the original Playboy produced programming including the live stuff were all in 1080i x 1440 HD. The channel was actually different from the SD version you see on DishNetwork.
For the prudes in this thread, you don't have to watch it and as it is a premium pay channel those who do want it are free to pay for it as they wish. Stop trying to make believe you are above others because you fear nudity in high definition.
Note- I may find shopping channels, Wrestling, and Golf painfully boring, but I don't see any point in gratuitous posts about how sick it makes me; and, I AM forced to surf through that programming as it is part of the regular channels.
So, I cast my vote FOR Playboy in HD! Miss it from the Voom days.

I too hope for PLBY-HD! Looking forward to hi-rez tattoos and piercings...and close ups of the man-taints. Seems to me the general trend in porn these days is less attractive women doing naked stuff and more tattood and pierced whores and strippers spitting on things and cussing up a storm. Eff that C! Playboy HD as a live video channel went away when Voom went dark (or perhaps earlier).
Well I just found out how not to get that channel.

A "friend" told me that HD porn requires either a lot of soft focusing, or a lot of makeup (face and body), otherwise it's kind of scary. I mean, on a 50"+ TV some of the stuff on screen is like 4x or larger than actual size. Err, that's what my friend tells me.

Back in the 90's, when I was just getting started in professional video I took some jobs for a Penthouse producer and also did some work for Playboy scouts, audition work. The specs for shooting included a tiffen soft Fx #3 filter to soften the flaws in the skin, pores, blemishes etc. This filter doesn't really defocus the skin but just adds a soft look, takes the edge off.
Makeup was used sparingly but enough to take the skin oils shine off. In some cases, heavy face makeup is used for normal TV talent. For the most part, skin masks were rarely used on our nude models. Our models were good enough to not need much makeup. I know this is not normal for a well weathered porn star. Some of them are indeed pretty rough.
I was not aware that Playboy HD died. I thought it was still on in NYC and Chicago. It was on right up until VOOM signed off. I actually recorded the final airings on DVD from the Voom receiver. It's not HD but looks good from the component output of the Voom receiver to my DVD recorder.

Some studios (e.g. Digital Playground's Celeste titles) filter a lot. Other studios like Anabolic use minimal filtering. HD adult content (Digital Playground shoot at 4K with RED cameras!) still isn't as scary as a 2 AM coyote ugly hookup the morning after.
So, no Playboy HD? What about Spice? Ten? Hustler? Private? (etc.)
