I think that there are so few people subscribing to Platinum pack that they are losing money. THey want to add the plat channels to any hd pack so they increase subs for that pack and so that they can advertise they have more hd channels than DIRECTV. I also see everyone going to hd plat + hd and then come spring, we will see an increase in our hd price . Could it be $15.00 for plat + hd come February or could it be $20.00? After all since they cut the hd pack into two packs: hd and Platinum, they have lost money. This is a way to regain the money and DISH only loses money on the plat pack for 6 months. Yes, I think this is a way to get all the subs back paying the full $20.00 again. Bait and eventual switch, come February.

If Turbo continues to exist, this could be the fabled solution Scott had talked about in the past; but instead of getting the new HD channels, they will add the platinums (which include a few new ones). Of course, at that point, Absolute and Turbo would be the same package, which will give it the feel of a discontinued package... I can hear the Dish executive's evil laughs now...

PS, looking at the early results, it is sad that when it looks like Dish is trying to do something good, 45% of people are automatically assuming that they will take something away as a result!

These days with many businesses, you just have to have a bit of suspension on what is up there sleve?? and not a position for the future price increase in Feburary?? Hopefully I am wrong and its just an added plus for HD customers.

Maybe after August first we will see some new slick marketing compaign in relation to there HD channels

Plus for many of us who have Platinum....lets see how it all shakes out with credits after the first???????

I'm sure they are going to go and just change everything come the first of the year. It will be some kind of bait and switch you know get people used to watching those channels and those shows then wham change everything make you spend more money for them.

I can't credit Dish with good marketing ploys, and i have no experience with Turbo packages (i already pay as much as possible to include platinum).

my guess is that the sources are indirectly helping to simplify Dish's stupid package structures by not alllowing channels to be carved up into limited or little add-on packages.

that said, i'm sure Charlie will screw us with price increases as soon as possible.

Anyone with any length of service with DISH knows that there is NO FREE LUNCH. Somewhere there will be an increase to offset the price drop on hd and plat; Usually around February .

I have advised DISH in the past via this website , to offer the regular hd channels that come with the programming packs, bronze, silver, gold for FREE. I even said roll the plat channels into the America's Everything Pack. Looks like on the surface they have done part of that. If you take the Plat + hd pack , you will still be paying $10.00 for the plat channels ,since they cost more to provide , and you are getting essentially free hd channels that come in the programming packs. DISH knows that most people don't think the plat pack is worth $10.00 a month, so they found a way to get more subs by offering it with ANY classic programming pack. They aren't saying FREE hd since you are still paying $10.00 for the plat pack ,combined with the Free hd with the classic programming packs. The problem will be come next price hike in February. Will we see hd go up to $15.00- $20.00 once again like they were before the hd split into two distinct packs? Or will this be something that DISH is doing for us and offering us something without strings attached?

Exactly. KISS. Keep it simply for everyone with no strings attached.

I think the "free HD" push from cable is hurting them. Adding more channels to the $10 package is a way to compete better. I do not see the price of the HD package going up in the future. I think it would be more likely to be eliminated, and all users get HD (i.e. base package price increase to cover).

I have said for a while that DISH ought to offer FREE HD with any programming pack and then ADVERTISE the fact that they offer FREE HD! . I sure hope that they will do this in the near future. But as long as Plat . pack is included WITH the hd pack I don't see how they can do that. The $10.00 price is for the plat. channels since they cost more to provide than the hd channels with sd equivalents.

They could do what they have done in the past, and make the platinum channels AEP only.

Don't expect the Platinum channels to be added to the.....I forgot what they were....Charlie and his guys on the Charlie Chats never talk about them anymore. I never see them advertise this particular package anymore...Let me see...I believe it begins with the letter "T"...but I could be wrong. I guess at this point Charlie has forgotten what they call it too.

My hat's off to you Charlie. You sure know how to treat your Turbo subs. At least you could tell us what you plan to do with the packages instead of ignoring them. A $10.00 increase in the price of the Turbo Gold and all I get are 3 new channels. That's rotten!!!!!!!!! :hatsoff:

I suggested that also in an earlier post. It makes sense to add them as an incentive to make subs go to AEP. That way more people would sub to the higher programming pack and get their average revenue per sub up.

Isn't it a bit of a stretch to think that people who will not pay $10 to add platinum to their existing HD sub will be enticed to pay more money and sub to AEP because of them?

The one SDTV channel I watch every day is History International,
do they have any plans to offer History International in HD?
