I just wanna vent a little. I know Dish cant do much about it. Just wish Viacom or whoever runs VH1 Classic would get off their butts and do HD already. Ever since upgrading to HD, Im really like Palladia. The concerts are great when its something I wanna watch (Rush R30, Rush: Time, Iron Maiden etc). HD in glorious surround sound. The Rush R30 concert I find has the best 5.1 I've heard yet. And they show programs across the different networks too. Actually HD Net can be good too. Most of the time its crap you'd see on a demo loop at Bestbuy. But occasionally they have some good concerts. They played Megadeth Blood in the Water concert and it looked and sounded great.

For example, the excellent metal documentary Metal Evolution debuted on Vh1 Classic, but they had the HD version on Palladia. But for some stupid reason they wont show any more episodes. So I gotta suffer through watching SD which looks just awful awful awful on any HD. I never watch SD anymore, exclusively HD only channels. I only make an exception for VH1 Classic. Another one of my favorite shows is That Metal Show, which has always been shot in SD. The hosts addressed why they dont shoot in HD but it was a BS reason. They should have shot on HD (they can afford it Im sure) for achival purposes, then if and when VH1 gets its act together rerun the shows in HD.

Interestingly, the new season of TMS is shot in widescreen. The first episode looked terrible in SD as usual, but if its in widescreen then perhaps HD is coming soon. Who knows.

Also, I had to cancel my South Park timers on WGN. Even though they say its in HD, none of the episodes are HD whatsoever. And its bad enough that they censor some of the jokes, as well as fade out of scenes into commercials which ruins the joke.

Oh well, I could write an angry email but it'd be futile. As if those ever get any attention. I just wanted to rightly complain and moan.:)

VH1 Classic is the ONLY video channel I watch. They do show a lot of classic concerts that were originally filmed in HD, plus originals shows like "That Metal Show" would look much better in HD.

Viacom (at least the MTV/VH1 networks) have always been sort of cheap when it comes to HD. Who knows if that'll ever change. On the other hand, Comedy Central (which is also owned by Viacom) does show a lot more HD content, including South Park in HD.

MTV, the owners of VH1 and VH1 Classic, don't want it competing against VH1, MTV and other MTV owned channels. The people who run MTV think that by not having VH1 Classic in hd, not as many people will watch it as much and will tune to MTV or VH1, which are broadcast in hd.

but unlike MTV and VH1, VH1 classic actually play videos ;)

I never watch the crap on MTV. They lost there way many moons ago.
I love VH1 classic! Just recorded a rare
Live concert of my favorite band Duran Duran. I wish it was in Hd.

I also miss Rave! That was my favorite!

Thankfully, I get CoolTV - and it's all music videos. It's FREE, OTA, and I don't have to pay $15 more a month (for AT250) to get music videos. It's SD, too, so no loss there. Did I mention it's FREE? I like FREE. If there's a Sinclair-owned station in your market, they likely carry CoolTV...FYI.

video killed the radio star :D
Actually Video was framed by Geoff Downes.

They'd have to upgrade all the videos. That sounds expensive. It'd be nice... though I wouldn't get the channel because it isn't in my package.

There used to be The Tube which did the same sort of thing OTA, but that went away.

Here in Minneapolis we have that and the Country Network on subchannels. The only thing I dont like about TheCoolTv is they have lots of new crap I dont listen too.
I like Rock..not hip hop rap crap where every song has to be someone featuring someone else. If you need someone to sing with you then maybe you shouldnt be in music ;)

I do like the blocks of music like 80's at 8, 90's nectar and Big Heavy Rock hour :)

We used to have Cool tv as a sub channel of the NBC affiliate in Green Bay, WI market. They replaced it with ME tv though.
Me-TV Network | Memorable Entertainment Television
I think they are trying to compete with the ABC station which has the Retro channel as a sub channel.

this might be why

On September 7, Journal and Weigel Broadcasting announced that WGBA would carry the classic television network Me-TV beginning October 1, 2011.[2][3]. Me-TV replaced TheCoolTV on 26.2, as Journal has brought a lawsuit against TheCoolTV's parent company for non-payment of services; WTMJ-TV, along with Journal's other stations dropped the network on October 1, 2011 to carry Live Well Network or Me-TV, depending on market

also its ironic that MeTV is replacing RTV in a lot of markets because RTV is really a shell of what it truly was :)

This doesn't bode well for Cool TV's future if they cant pay their bills.

The owners of MTV and VH1 have given up on any programning that doen't have anything to do with cRap or that Lady Gaga/ Katy Perry/ other pop garbage. When MTVx became MTV Jams, and the people from Viacom lied and claimed that it was my local cable company who switched the channel and that MTVx was still available, I gave up on them.

Isn't Viacom owned by CBS, or once were? Look at what CBS's radio division did every rock station on the East Coast. WXRK, WYSP, WBCN, WKRK, WOCL, etc. With the exception of WOCL who is now a classic hits station, the rest are either Pop music or the most used and useless format on the FM dial- Sports Talk. Just what I want 21 hours of some butt hole complainig that Tom Brady's pass percentage isn't up to par with Payton Mannings, arguing over what was worse the Red Sox collasp of 2011 or the Yankees collasp of 2004, or just some fat ass rambling on about what they would do better at any sport, besides eat another doughnut. Guys without any use in life getting paid much more money, because idiots will listen to their words like it's gospal. Then one 3 hour game , that most pepole will watch on their TV. I love sports, but I HATE Sports Talk!

Anyway, Viacom won't put VH1 Classic in HD because it doesn't fit what their board members like. Poor people's music choice who will not turn their tv off and go outside for fear of the crime in the neighborhood, or idiot's choice to mindless garbage like Jersey Shore. Look at the reality, in the morning I can watch Pop music videos or Rap videos on MTV, MTV2, MTV Hits, MTV Jams, and VH1. Five ----ing channels dedicated to one special interest group. Then you got CMT and some country VH1 channel decicated to Country music videos. Two for poor rural people and five for the poor urban people. Why care about TMS in HD when you can watch Pimp my Ride and Trick my Truck all day long.

As you can tell, I have a lot of bad blood with CBS and Viacom over their continued abuse of the Rock Industry. I could actually start an entire thread on CBS Radio's agenda to kill Rock Radio, and it has nothing to do with loss of listeners, but rather watering down of variety in the playlist and 100% morning and afternoon talk only programning. But that's not Satellite Television and has nothing to do with this site.

Beavis and Butt-Head is the only reason I turn on MTV

ditto

Sorry about that Ice. Did not know they still aired Beavis and Butt-Head.

I'm old school. I liked it when all MTV played was music videos.
Early 80s I went nuts for this channel

Buggles, Duran Duran, Asia, Yes, Peter Gabriel.

You get the point. I miss those music days.

I don't recognize MTV anymore. I just flip right by it.

Rave played great concerts with an incredible picture.
I wish it was still around.

I don't remember when MTV Jams came about, because I don't think my cable company carried them at the time, but MTV X was NOT displaced by MTV Jams by Viacom. MTV X was displaced by LOGO. (My cable company didn't carry LOGO either, resulting in a net loss of one channel -- with no reduction in price of course.) I remember reading a press release about it. I was furious because I also remembered the earlier press release about how the wonderful new digital multiplexing technology would enable Viacom to have an MTV channel for EVERY genre of music. I guess they didn't want to pay for a fatter transponder. Maybe they should've just cut the bit-rate of the individual channels, seeing as how everybody who redistributes them does that anyway!
