How is Hopper/Joey on over heating?

I ended up having to cut the back out of my entertainment center and I also have to leave the glass door open to keep my 722 from over heating. Does anyone know if this will be an issue with the hopper/Joey also? I know that all electronic devices need as much air as possible, but my wife would LOVE IT if we could start closing the glass door on the entertainment center after the upgrade.

I puts out quite a bit of heat yet. I would bet you'd have to do the same thing. I forgot that I had my router sitting on top of my Joey and it over heated.

Mine are wide open, plenty of air, but they both run very warm, even on standby. Keep in mind, the Hopper is in a slim enclosure, so your hand is closer to heat source (chassis components). Also, the Joey is ventilated on both top and bottom, but they provide a flat plate as a stand for the Joey. But, it can be mounted vertically on this stand (as well as horizontally), which is what I did so the Joey gets more ventilation.

I just checked the temp counters on my Hopper and the temps are no different than what my 922 was. High temp is 123 and average is 107.

One of my Hoppers was located in a cabinet-style TV stand with a sturdy plywood back, glass doors, and two small holes in the back for the wires. Not much air circulation admittedly. With the glass doors closed it was so hot I could barley keep my hand on the bottom of the Hopper. The Joey tied to it froze and when I opened the glass door it started working again (may have just been coincidence). My 722k was in the same stand for years and I had no problems. Based on a recommendation by GaryPen I bought two USB fans, but the holes in the back of my TV stand were so small it didn't really help. I tried cutting a bit away from the plywood to add more exhaust holes, but in the end I just removed the entire back. I'm keeping the fans running anyway and now it is way cooler (obviously). Wish these little things didn't run so hot!

I read somewhere that the hopper uses about 10 watts less power then a 722
Less power used = less heat
hopper (running) around 51 watts
joey around 8 watts

When I connect my sling adapter I'm guessing it goes on top of the Hopper...will that cause the sling or the hopper or both to overheat???

Thanks in advance

There are no vents on top of the Hopper, so the adapter should not make it run hotter. The adapter will be warm for sure, but it was designed to be used that way. The adapter by itself, does not run hot.

I'm not at home so sorry for the dumb ?... but where are the vents on the Hopper???

Bump. I was just touching one of the Joeys, the top is so hot that it almost burns. I had to physically resist wanting to remove my fingers. It's lying horizontal with nothing on top or around it. Normal?

Yes it is "normal" when its from the same clueless Engineers that worked on the VIP DVRs.
