Hello, I just placed an order with Dish and decided to go with the Hopper and three Joey's. I am currently with Directv and switched because of the savings. I am worried about not having enough turners for me family as we currently have 5 Directv boxes. Do you think it will be enough as we replacing one Dtv box with comcast and the others with the Hopper. How does the hopper sharing turners work? Also, how is Dish On Demand?

Thanks!

If you're used to having more tuners then you definitely should get 2 Hoppers and 2 Joeys.

Thanks for the reply! I will probably end up down the road getting a second hopper for the house. Will Dish be able to use Directv wiring or have to install new wiring?

You are making a mistake by not planning ahead up front. Bit the bullet now, will just cost you more down the road...equipment, installation, etc.

Get 2 hoppers and the amount of joeys you need. 1 hopper and 3 joeys will be a very tight fit for the average home. The second hopper helps.

Don't worry about wiring.

no he needs to worry about the wiring as that was his question and the answer is YES!

You can not use the Hopper on some types of cable such as Perfect Vision because DISH is LAME!!! 3Ghz cable will work perfectly fine no matter what the brand but Dish is just being stupid over it. Now make sure you tell the tech that shows up you intend on getting another hopper so he can wire it up ready to go while he has the dish apart and is running cables so the next guy out will have a easy upgrade such as the same tech or another. I wish more customers would speak up front of thoughts of upgrades when doing the install to prevent issues down the road from drilling more holes or other things that you can do up front.

But again - the Hopper right back to the Dish itself can NOT be using certain brands of cable unless you the customer sign off on it and are prepared to back it up with the tech when the inspector comes knocking - infact tell the inspector to go blank himself if you like what the tech did and you are happy as the inspector will only nit pick the job over and fail him for something no matter what.

Your diatribe aside, let the installer determine that. People have been switching left and right with the same coax.

I certainly did..... My Hopper is on an RG6 coax that I, myself, installed in 1987..... Oh, and by the way, it works flawlessly since March of last year....

Think of the live tuners as Chairs and you want 4 people to sit in them....someone is going to have to sit on somebody else's lap (mirror) or go play a previously recorded event, or VOD event.

As far as wiring...have that discussion with your installer onsite. If by chance they are looking to get promoted, not be fired, or are by the book swapping out cabling will be done. However if you get a tech that is either just concerned about productivity and not so worried about quality then your wiring wont be touched. But just remember if you refuse to have it installed to specifications it is your decision to wave a 100% up to standard install, so in the future you start having issues you.may be charged truck roll fees to resolve the issue.

You can always have the Hopper put in the most easily accessible location to replace cabling because honestly the Joey's do almost everything the Hopper does and the joeys don't require 3ghz cable.

Thanks everyone for the replies! Dish installer is currently here and it seems as I cannot have the Hopper where I want it as he has to put on climbing gear to get on the roof to run a new line. So he wants to place it in another room. I thought he could use the same wiring for DTv for the Hopper. Guess not!

Thanks again everyone!

I hope you got 2H/2J. And I had a Dish guy run Perfectvision/Directv coax once. I don't allow QA people into my home and if they don't leave the property or try to climb on my roof I'll call the police.
