I just left several websites, looking for aquarium filters, pumps, supplies, etc. for one of my other addictive hobbies, planted aquaria.
I go to Satellite Guys and guess what's waiting for me?
....Yep, ads for aquarium supplies. I'm done shopping already...when is the Internet going to give me a break?

The reason I'm here is to shop for another FTA receiver, read more reviews, gain more FTA knowledge, etc., etc...For crying out loud, where's all the FTA receiver ads?! Yea, I know...the sponsors are up at the top.

fiz the advertisers spend millions to track people like you all over the internet. They use cookies to track your browsing habits, to try to tailor ads to your interests, expecting that one great ad will cause you to BUY BUY BUY! About the only way to beat them, is to block all cookies (remember Flash-Animation now has cookies-some that never expire and are hard to delete), block flash animation too. Of course, most of the web sites you visit won't work right, you'll have to log in each visit, etc. The great thing Al Gore invented for us, could've become an educational tool, but alas, has become a huge advertising device! Just my 2cents, hehe.

In fact I never see any ads on the Internet. *

Ad Blocker: Ad Muncher

Pricey, but works with every browser.

Nor does my search engine track me,

https://duckduckgo.com/html

Ever. (As far as I know)

I'm not exactly tech savvy, there may be other solutions out there. But Al Gore can be defeated. Ask George...

* The tiny Gold Sponsor banners at the top of this site's page do appear, I fudged a little. But virtually all ads are missing from my Internet without any effort on my part, the software just works.

FireFox w/ the "Tell website I do not want to be tracked" option enabled along with AdBlockerPlus, WebOfTrust, and ShareMeNot Add-ons works wonders. All those "like", "tweet", and "share" buttons report your browsing without even being clicked. Oh, yeah, and not being a member of any social networks.

Chrome has add-ons as well, but google tracks everything and they are pushing their new SN GooglePlus.

**end of free tech support consult**

ahahahahahhahahahahahaaahhahahaaa

I get the same thing. I went to solidsignal to look at TV antennas and now it shows up in ads all the time on other sites. I just ignore them ;)

I may not be a fan of ads, but sometimes, rarely actually, they can be quite useful. I just wish non-relevant ads would stop following me to other sites.
When I'm here at Satellite Guys, I expect to see satellite equipment ads, not PetCo or Netfix (which I already subscribe to).

Become a pub member, and the ads will go away ;)

Yup and that will also help us pay for the new $11,000 server we just moved to. ;)

Sent from my iPad using The SatelliteGuys app!

Forgot all about becoming a PUB Member!...Hmmmmm...something to consider.

I've heard the initiation is rough on new members. That it's some kind of FTA cult brother/sister-hood with secret hand shakes and all. Cameras aren't allowed and once in, you can never leave, and all sorts of other unmentionable traditions only seen from the other side of the LAN connection. ;)

Decisions, decisions...

Once you're in you won't wanna leave.;):D

Tonight, Russia Today is running a Tomm Harman interview of the founder of duckduckgo. He claims that one adverse effect of being tracked is that when you look for something political, the major search engines will favor results that are political comoatible with your search history, meaning that the search results pages will be biased politically, conservative or liberal, based on the political slant of what you have been selecting.

I see this thread is nearly two years old. Is duckduckgo getting any traction?

IMHO, forums such as this should practically pay members, not the other way around. The only value of the forum is from the input provided FREE by members (just like facebook and all the other social media sites). No members, no value, no ad revenue. You can see why I find it difficult to fit into society with my perverted thinking.
