Sprint in talks with DISH

These seems odd after Dish lost out on buying Sprint. I guess Softbank figures this might help grow Sprint in the US with combined name recognition of Dish/Sprint? Or maybe they just see this as an opportunity for bundles since Verizon has FIOS TV.

I want to see this partnership just so I can see the Sprish name used.

And if DirectTV, Dish and Sprint merge with Brighthouse that would be Dirsprishouse.

Mergers almost always mean less choices in providers and higher prices for consumers. I have always said that the two satellite companies could do partnerships without mergers. They could of done locals as a combined 3rd company that both satellite companies could of used and the same for sports channels. Less money spent on duplication that way and both companies would save money. They could partner together to do negotiations for better deals like CBS/Viacom, Disney/ABC/ESPN or negotiate for the best sports deals etc. They could use the same company to create their receivers like Echostar. They could do all the best deals like a merger using the combined total count of both sat companies as strength in negotiations , but without doing a merger. But of course if they could do all that and get along , I imagine that a merger between the two companies would then make sense. But if they couldn't get along together along the way , they would be no worse off and stay separate companies. That way the consumer would not pay the price if the cooperation failed.

I do not see this as going towards a merger between Dish and Sprint. More of Dish leasing space on Sprint towers to get their frequencies in use.

Dish has to do something rather soon. They have time commitments on their bandwidth, use it or lose it.

And I'm sure Sprint is well aware of that in their negotiating tactics.

They currently are doing some testing on fixed wireless between the two.

I used to have CLEAR ... fixed WiMax ... but they only had 1 Mbps upload ... so I eventually moved on; however, I did have unlimited download which was awesome. WiMax only gave me around 10 Mbps down on average ... but it worked quite well ... at least in my area.

If Sprint and Dish came out with a fixed "unlimited" wireless plan that gave me 10 Mbps down and say 5 Mbps up ... I would be on board.

10 down and 1 up is not that bad at all for a wireless service and would suffice for most as long as it was unlimited and good ping. A slightly better upload would be nice, perhaps 2-3 mb.

I am guessing what is going to be happening, is that instead of satellite antennas receiving signals from outerspace. It is going to become like how cellphones receive their signals, through the towers.
