Has anyone had any problems running a Hopper 3 on a UPS? After taking a close lightening strike several years ago I run all of my Audio/Visual equipment on a UPS. I read on the Dish Network support site about someone that had a problem with several Hopper 3s on a UPS.

For the same reason I run all my AV gear off Surge Protectors and Line Conditioners. For years all my DISH boxes have been on them. Unless you have a very large UPS, which I do use on my computers and telco systems, they are not logical for high power AV equipment. Whereas a Surge Protector, as I have been told by Field Supervisors are a great source of protection and will not interfere with the units operation.

Just my 2¢.

Entire A/V cabinet is on a UPS. Hopper 3 has no issues with it. Spend the money for a good UPS not a 39.95 walmart special. Get something with AVR (automatic voltage regulation) and NEVER EVER plug a UPS into a UPS trying to double your time, it does not work that way and due to the way UPS'es work something about the sine wave of the first messes up the sine wave of the second so the equipement does not get the power wave its supposed to get, would work for lights etc but would possibly fry electronics.

Yes and yes... My TV is plugged into the same UPS that the H3 is plugged in to.

Any specifications on your USB you can write in here so I know which one to look for. I would love to have everything in my dwelling on a USB. Well except for refrigerator, stove, radar range. Would need tp purchase a few USBs but, that would be OK.

I don't worry about line conditioning and surge protection as much as I need protection from the unreliable power co's brownouts and momentary voltage blips. A 650VA UPS works just fine for my computer and AV needs. I usually get them on sale on Black Friday for about $40.

I now use CyberPower and Tripp UPSs only. APC's fail often, don't last long and error, shutdown, for the strangest reasons that APC can't figure out. I just donated a stack of them. I read an article a while back where APC was at the bottom of the list mainly due to the lack of build quality and having to replace the batteries often. Just my experience.

My experience is pretty much the opposite. We've had CyberPower and Belkin UPS's in the past that were terrible. We've now got 5 APC's running for the past few years which have been very reliable and have needed the minimum of maintenance.

I use TrippLite most everywhere, but I do have an APC that was made for AV equipment, can't remember the model, but it's been very good,

I've had good luck in the past with TrippLite. We use all TrippLite surge suppressors. :)

I have 4 of the APC BR1500G's 2 used for AV (living room where H3 is) and one in the master bedroom and 2 others in my server room which one supplies one additional Joey in my office. These units are over 5 years old have never had any issues with them. Only APC units I have had issues with are the 39.95 specials you get at WalMart or other retailers. Oh i might mention too still have not had to change the batteries, however that on the list of spring cleaning items this year even though they pass the tests and during some power outages lately all handled the load like they should.
