OK, today I was convinced by a stubborn 322 that I need a dial tone generator to by-pass the "connect an operational phone line to continue" screen that is generated on all dual tuners before activation. (Please refrain from accusations of deception, as I ALWAYS make the $5 phone line disclosure up front within the first five minutes of saying 'hello' to the customer.) The customer had no active phone lines, which is no problem. I just run my check switch, let it take the software download, then activate with the phone bypass. But for some reason, the 322 popped up that dreaded phone line prompt RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MY CHECK SWITCH - WTF!?!?!?!. So I didn't even really know if the freaking reciever was in the stream, but I had no choice but to activate and hope that the phone by-pass did its job. So I activated, then sat there for 20 minutes. FINALLY the stupid screen disappeared. I ran my check switch, and was on my way. But I could have saved myself about 30 minutes or more in total if I would have been able to bypass that phone prompt immediately.

In short, does anyone know of a very cheap, small, reliable dial tone generator? I don't need to 'Test' any phone lines, I don't need to do anything fancy at all. I just want the stupid reciever to be happy and think it has a phone line connected for about 10 seconds.

Have you tried looking at tuner 2 I think you will find Tuner 2 isn't blocked by the telephone line screen. At least I have found that to be true on 625s.:)

Actually, I have found the exact opposite to be true. Most of the time, I will have problems with TV2 not TV1. But 95% of the time the problem only arises if, before activation, the tuner is powerd off normally (remote control or front panel) then powered back on. That will force the screen to come up, and it will STAY up until the bypass is recieved through activation.

At times when I activate thru the IVR, the bypass doen not go thru..If after 10 mins I simply call back ,get a csr to look at the results..If the bypass went thru I reboot the box..If not, I have the csr add the bypass..I am getting annoyed at the extended time requred for activation to complete..We arequired by Dish to reamin on site until the cust has all prgramming..I allow 30 mins(this amy seem excessive to some) for activation/equip demo..
The phone line issue is covered at pre call bit only if the customer mentions it..I must assume the salesperson did their job and covered this the point of sale..It is NOT our responsibilty to re sell the system.... If the customer asks abot the phone line conns, I give all the pertinent details...I have had exactly ZERO custs cancel becuase of phone connex issues...

way to get off topic, the main reason for this thread was to see if a Telephone Dial Tone Generator exsists, i would love to have one also for those tricky phone bypass installs.

This is why if I get into a situation where the IVR won't allow me to bypass the phone, I just break out my "emergency" wireless phonejacks.

Yeah, yeah, I know I'm completely screwed if the IVR is messed up AND the customer doesn't have a phone. As DishComm stated, I give it 10 mins...tops! If I don't see my bypass taking into effect, I'm on the horn immediate with a CSR.

The tone generator aint gonna save you the $5 because Dish audits the account for the $5 fee when they see the receiver doesn't call in for a few months!

That's completely besides the point. We are not customers. We are installers. We always make the disclosure about the $5, and we only care about the $5 as much as the customer does. We care about the 5 minutes the phone line hookup wastes more than the 5 dollars it costs. In some cases, the behavior of the recievers is such that it wastes 30 minutes or more during the install because it forces us to activate and wait before we can do things like run a check switch, change the modulated output, re-program a UHF address, or educate the customer on the remote control functions and channel 101.

I always activate immediately after a check switch and I verify high signal strengths, usually during the software download. If I can get it early, sometimes they channels will actually show up before I leave.

Yeah, you heard me right. I NEVER intentionally stay long enough for the customer to get their channels. I tell them to leave the recievers on for 30 min, and give me a call in an hour if they don't see their Milwaukee locals pop in below 100. I'm a speed freak. Waiting is for DNS techs.

I apologize to the OP for going so far off topic. :D

connect a usb keyboard and type in 777#01839 then you will get a shut off phone line. type Y and the phone check will be erased and then no 5$ fee ever and do not allow it to update by turning off auto update.

This should work it works on all dish dvrs but Dish keeps changing the codes

Your dirty :D It could be a $5 instant rebate if plugged into a phone line.

You know last week I was doing a checkswitch on a 322 and right in the middle of it the test phone line comes in.

Then two weeks ago I couldn't even get rid of the test line screen 30 minutes after activation w/ a bypass.

Turns out the software was a bit out of date, CSR told me to go into point dish lock on 119 then 110 then power off... to force software update.

If you play by the rules, a 2 room install running lines, smaller home, no pole nothing fance should take about 1.5 hrs or so, like I said playing by the rules you'll add another 1.5 hours for activation and such.

Yeah, probably. It's got the right NAME though... it just doesn't do what I need it to. :(
