Orlando HD Locals

I have noticed on the list of cities going hd that Orlando is on there but it has not happened yet. When I contacted Dishnetwork, they said there are no plans for Orlando. Directv has Orlando locals in hd so I am thinking about switching over to Direct. Has anybody heard anything else regarding Orlando locals going hd?

It's true. all of the remaining planned HD locals have been scrapped except for Indy, Raleigh, and Pittsburgh

This year yes.

I would hope not forever. One would think dish will get back to adding hD locals later

This is very disappointing news. I was hoping I would get them before football season and now I find out they may never come. The company that installed my dish says they can install an OTA for $200.00 Yikes!!! I guess that is going to be what I'll have to do as soon as I can afford it.

Nope - Atlanta HD was even put on 129W and is paying the price for being on the crippled satellite.

Miami HD was put on 110W, which I suspect was because Tampa was one of the first D* markets for HD LIL in 2005 and Miami was scheduled 6 months later, so they figured D* had Tampa and decided to go for Miami early with the only slot on 110 they had available. Notice how Tampa was never listed on the list.

Remember, on the 110W Spotbeams, Transponder 4 is used for Ft. Myers SD, Transponder 12 for Miami HD, Transponder 18 does not cover Florida and Transponder 20 is Atlanta SD and does not cover Florida, 23 is the Jacksonville SDs, 26 the Augusta SD spotbeam and does not cover Florida, 29 1/2 the Orlando Local SD and 31 the other half of the Orlando SD Locals.

Thus, there is no other place for a HD MPEG4 Spotbeam to go on 110 that will cover Orlando or Tampa (or other parts of Florida for that matter).

Only Washington DC, Philadelphia, NY and Boston HD made it on to 61.5W. Washington was scheduled for 129W but that did not work, so they had to move it to 61.5W.

When and if Tampa ever gets HD LILs, which satellite do you think it will be on? I certainly don't want my place looking like NASA's communication center like a roof photo I've seen recently.:)

Clearly one must assume that Tampa is a long way off and most likely will not see the light of day prior to the replacement for 129W being in place. If they took the 2 transponders/spotbeams that they need for all the Orlando SD stations presently and went MPEG4 on SD and HD, I suppose that could allow 1 transponder for a market in Mid-Florida (most likely Orlando) - but again that means changing out every unit in the Orlando DMA both SD and HD to be MPEG4 capable and we have yet to hear of anything of that scale happening yet. At this point, its pure speculation.

Thus far from what I've seen of MPEG4, cable or fios will be my delivery method of choice even with less choices when MPEG4 becomes king.

So let me get this straight, if Dish puts Orlando on 129. That means I will have to get a new dish. I already have 2 dishes on the house (Dish 500 for 110/119 and a standard dish for 61.5). So what is wrong with 129?

Orlando will not be on 129 that's up there now.

Who knows what dish has planned a couple years from now. But it won't be anywhere for now.

Does any body know if the miami spots for hd would reach jacksonville? If you could tell me what spot too look for on the aim dish screen I could find out. The SD spots for miami I know are on Spot 3 on 119. Meaning when I go into the aim sta screen and select 119 tp 3 it has zero signal. Except for the wee early morning hours when it has a sig of 30 to 45.

Just wondering if I can get Miami locals via HD it would be a reason for me to upgrade to the ViP receivers.

As stated on post #5 of this thread, the Miami HD Spotbeams are on Transponder 12 of 110W. That is where you need to check you signals - however, Pensacola/Mobile SD locals are also on 12, so I suspect you might be too far north, as indicated by this map. All you can do is check the signal - but remember that mpeg4 errors lock up a 211/622 real fast and you have to spend 15 minutes rebooting to get a picture back. If you don't have a signal of 70 at least, I doubt you will be very happy.

Any chance of us being able to add the Miami spotbeam signal here in the Jacksonville area?

I get a signal strength of 107 on 12 on 110w.

no plans.

do you have an antenna? cause the orlando ota is incredibly easy to receive in the city and surrounding areas

I live 82 miles from the Orlando Fox and CBS transmitters. Right now my antenna is about 25' high and I can't pull them in. I'm swapping masts this weekend to get it up to 35' high (my location is 163 ft above sea level). I have a RS VU-190 XR.

Any tips on a better antenna?
