    Sad News...

I think John did that on purpose just to let us remember he is still around... probably somewhere in geosync orbit.... RIP

Time Warner Cable Dropping HDNet Channels Nationwide May 31

This is not an issue of programming, choice, or whatever.... it is about money, cost. However TWC decides to promote the decision, in the backroom where the decision is made, it is cost. Either Cuban is asking too much or TWC is cutting expenses, or both. It is possible that TWC announced...

    3/4/2009 2:28pm - Uplink Activity Report - 66 changes

I remember when in the old days all the programming was in the clear and free.. all you needed was $3k worth of C or KU band gear :):) Of course E* just announced higher profits with fewer subscribers (their new business plan I guess)... so maybe you are right... getting no new nationals with...

Why do you subscribe to locals? (Old)

For local news, local weather alerts, local sports, can't get but one local OTA even with outdoor antenna. Could care less about national programming via local or national channels.... it's mainly a lot of commercial inundated junk with a smattering of decent programs.... I usually wait for...

Why Is WFN Classified as a HD Channel?

Well, the bottom line for me is I would rather have the channel HD with little or no HD content than have channels out there with tons of HD content and be stuck with an SD channel. At least the SD content presented on HD channels is typically better PQ than SD on an SD channel. The HD content...

So MGM HD does not do DD5.1 in some Movies? What's up with that?

Heck man, you're not crazy... I understand... I personally prefer my Lexicon processor's Logic 7 surround mode to most all others, so I default to it on most sources, especially older soundtracks. I just like making the decision for myself and not have some gunkie somewhere else doing it for me.

So MGM HD does not do DD5.1 in some Movies? What's up with that?

I tend to agree here. Sean, you are a big supporter of OAR (I am too), why not Original Sound? Any good surround processing equipment should be able to morph the sound into a form you like.... are you saying you want some person at MGM to decide what format audio you listen to or to convert...

    Tennis HD: What the Crap?

Many (most??) overseas tennis events are not produced in HD, but in their version of SD which has a slightly higher resolution than that used in the USA. So yes, you are looking at upconverted SD for many of the events. Each year more tourneys are done in HD, so it will get better. Don't...

    Dish Network Earnings Call

I agree with some others.... IMHO this whole Voom thing feels like manipulation by Charlie. It's the timing. If it were really a matter of bandwidth (we know it isn't) or some such excuse, Charlie could have put out a announcement last week saying "In order to get these 22 HD channels, we are...

No new HD for a while?

To quote Yoda "Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future." This thread is exactly why I love SatelliteGuys.us... tasty tidbits, rumors, speculation, what if's, slaps on the face, slaps on the back... it gets no better. Scott and SatelliteGuys rule. It's why we are here. BH

    Are your whites blown out?

I agree with Ben, a good calibration disc can set up your DVD player and a ISF calibration can set up your TV... the problem that remains is that each channel broadcast on Satellite (and even each program broadcast on each satellite) has different qualities. So while one channel with a...
