And they continue to work both UHF an IR. In fact if you set the IR command to enabled on the Hopper/Joey/Wally you can use the old Dish 20/21 IR remotes and they work just fine.

Might just be something that is a one off. If it happens again, just unplug the Hopper from its power source let it sit for 5 minutes and the plug it back in. If the issue continues I suggest you call service.

The 54 Remote is IR to the peripherals, TV and AVRs etc, but UHF only to the Dish reveivers. As I mentioned earlier you can set your Hopper/Joey to receive IR from IR only remotes like the Harmony. I use Harmony myself in IR mode. The question was whether the Dish remote to the Hopper/Joey...

It is definitely not an IR remote, it is a UHF remote. You don’t even have to be in the same room to control the receiver.

Yes, they both use a UHF remote. Both the Hopper and Joey also have an IR setting to allow IR remotes as well. The Hopper Plus and Joey 4 do not work well with IR though.
