Bad experience with Directv call center in the Phillipines.

Interesting thread. Yes, they have at least moved some of their call center activity to the Philippines. I can't remember why I called, but it was a couple of weeks ago and the person at the other end of the phone was clearly reading from a script and had no idea of what satellite TV was about...

Pixelation or complete stall on embedded commercials.

Sorry for the delay closing out this thread. But, knowing the issue was resolved has taken some time. Earlier, Zashel suggested that it could be traceable to having power saver mode turned on. Well I turned it off and the problem persisted. But, in fairness to Zashel, all the commercials that...

Directv Slimline 5 LNB Alignment Instructions

You live in Downey, CA and you are worried about rain fade? Very funny. I live just a bit down the road and would love to worry about rain fade. And that rain storm we had a few months ago will cause rain fade with any alignment.

Pixelation or complete stall on embedded commercials.

Yet it was. I just turned if off and did a RBR. We will see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion.

Pixelation or complete stall on embedded commercials.

Thanks for the input. I will try clearing the buffers. That is the only thing left to do. The situation has spread across more channels since my original post. The good news is that it no longer seems to lock up the receiver. Things just go crazy for about 30 seconds and then all is well again...

Pixelation or complete stall on embedded commercials.

Don, Thanks for your reply. In our case it is serious blotching with lots of solid colors across the top of the screen. And again today a total lockup where we have to change channels and then come back to get things to start again. Since I know that all programming is cached on an HR24, you...

Pixelation or complete stall on embedded commercials.

For the last month or so we are getting heavy pixelation on "local" commercials embedded for shows on TNT and USA networks. At times the whole top of the screen is just large blocks of solid colors that go away when the commercial is over and at others it just freezes while the commercial is...

Another beef... I kinda wish that all stations in native HD ARE IN HD on DirecTV...

Not necessarily true. Watch a current show of NCIS in HD. My Sony upshifted SD is sharper than most of the clips in these shows. But I think the point trying to be made here is that most of the older films were digitized/converted to tape in the SD days and the studios are not anxious to drag...

It was. I missed that the link had already been posted above. I read the text, just missed the link. I need to be more careful. :(

    RV Setup suddenly not working!!

I agree it is probably an alignment issue. A similar think happened to us at an RV park in San Antonio. Everything worked fine in the morning. Went to town to look around and do the tourist thing. When we returned, zippo. A quick realignment of the dish set everything right. I cannot name names...

    high def vs standard def

They probably do since every frame is cached in memory. But, only an HD receiver could deal with this full-frame 60 times a second versus a SD receiver expecting half the picture each 1/30th of a second. I really don't understand why this option is even available.

    high def vs standard def

Boy, we know you are a youngster! You obviously are way too young to remember the rotary dial phone days. When tone dialing first came out (versus the old dial method) the phone company DID charge extra for this service. We bought a new phone that had tone dialing on it and connected it to our...

    high def vs standard def

pdiddy, Depending on your TV some of the upshift technology can be quite remarkable. I am watching a SD broadcast right now on what my Direct receiver identifies as "480i resolution + Pillar Box format" and my Sony 52" led TV is upshifting it to a very acceptable picture. No, it is not HD, but...

    high def vs standard def

Sorry, no 480p except perhaps with a PC output. There is no such thing as 480p broadcast standard.
