I use a UPS for my DVRs to allow me to shutdown the machines in case there is an extended outage. It doesn't happen all that often, and its probably now designed out, but I want to avoid a head to disc crash caused by sudden power shutdown.

It used to be an option to not have locals, and not pay for them. I guess for new subs or normal upgrades that they are required, but I was forced out of HD Absolute. BTW, not all locals are carried by satellite companies, only those they have carriage agreements with.

Well, its only $5 if done before 30 days, and you get the prorated savings anyway. My only concern now is that you would not get a discount if you switch lower, but it appears that you'll only get a $5 savings on the new price if you go to AT120 or DA. I'm holding off to see what happens...
