Yes you are stuck with dolby pro logic II or dts neo at best, how good of a result will depend how the stereo is encoded, which is station and program depended.

The dtv tivo get software updates thru the phone line. and some routine hard drive housekeeping.

On the dtv tivo a phone is still required. esp for setup and software updates.

The upgrade policy is the same, this only affect new cust. coming to DTV.

Ahh no you are wrong. There are 3 DTV owned call centers. Mainbank/Billing mostly is Idaho and they do some basic tech trouble shooting , then you have Oklahoma & Alabama which are t1 & t2 call centers these are the only DTV owned call centers, everybody else is outsourced.
