Ah the harshness. This DVR sits all by itself on TOP of a media cabinet far from any heat source (other than itself) in a well-ventilated room that rarely gets over 75 degrees in the summer.

I have noticed it too, but in my case it helps because I used to have to change 'view mode' on my HD TV2 on some channels but now they are all appropriately sized.
