Good troubleshooting, I Think hideffjeff probably had it right with extending the remote antenna to the outside of the cabinet the antenna may have vibrated down and touched something grounding out the signal. try that when you finally put it all together again.

don't mind me but have you tried setting TV2 to channel 21?

hate to mention the obvious but when was the last time you changed your batterys?
