Just switched from Comcast and I am a bit lost

The DVR doesn't need to be near the router nor do you need cat5 available near the DVR. Using the Cinema Connection Kit (as suggest by JAG72 above) your DVR will be connected to your internet connection via it's coax cable. The Cinema Connection kit is small device that connects to your router...

    Ok, thanks. That's fair enough.

Just switched from Comcast and I am a bit lost

DirecTV has OnDemand. But it works a bit differently from Comcast. It starts on channel 1000. It is broken down channel by channel as well; if you want that you add a 1 in front of the channel. For instance CNN is on channel 202, so CNN OnDemand is channel 1202. They have NBC & ABC but no CBS...

    Protection Plan

I'm a new subscriber to DirecTV and just noticed that I've signed up for the "Protection Plan" @ $6 per month. The funny thing is that I don't recall signing up for a protection plan. I looked it up on their website after receiving a mailout from them, but I'm still don't clearly understand it's...

    YouTube on Genie

BTW, I suspect it's something about my router that it doesn't like, but I'm not certain. My router is an older Netgear WGR614 version 8. It does support UPnP and I have that enabled. I also tried manually forwarding the ports to the H34 in the router and H34's settings but that didn't help...

    YouTube on Genie

I have the exact same issue. Everything but Youtube works great but I get a connection error when I try to use Youtube. I have a Genie and 3 C31s, it's the same on all of them. I tried resetting the Genie and clients, as well as bring the entire network down and back up multiple times to no avail.

Thinking about switching from DISH to Directv

Keep in mind that I'm coming from Comcast, but to me the Genie and it's clients are sloooooow. It takes an average of 4.5 - 5 seconds (from the time the button is pressed until you get video) to bump up 1 channel. It's about 3.5 seconds to load the guide. In comparison, the H25 switches...

Thinking about switching from DISH to Directv

If they would bump the Genie up to 8 tuners (the max for the SWM LNB) and speed the Genie and it's clients up to as fast as the H25, it would be perfect.

Thinking about switching from DISH to Directv

You could record 4 shows at once and watch live TV on either TV. The recording can be initiated from either C31 client or the Genie. The actual storage takes place on the Genie but can be accessed from either the Genie or client. You could not record 2 shows on the client, record 2 on the...

Thinking about switching to D* from E* - Questions on install and "Genie"

The C31s work great with the RF remotes. I have 2 of them working with RC65RX remotes, both in RF mode. Apparently the C31s have a built in RF remote antenna, as there isn't a connection for an antenna on it.

Thinking about switching to D* from E* - Questions on install and "Genie"

I just had a new Genie, 3 C31s and a H25 installed. The DECA (Cinema Connection Kit) doesn't have to be located where the Genie is. The installer put mine in my wiring closet where the 8 way splitter is, along side the power inserter. Both of which are connected to one of the outputs on the 8...

    Demark

The install went off without a hitch on Friday. I was lucky enough to get a senior tech on the install and he did a great job. I got the Genie, 3 clients and an H25. I really like the system thus far but I do have a complaint. The guide on the Genie and it's clients (especially the clients) are...

    Demark

The house is on a concrete slab, so there is no crawlspace. The coax will have to be ran in the attic. But I've made this very easy for them. When I built the house a few years ago, I installed an electrical conduit from the attic down through the wall cavity and through the brick to the...

    Demark

Yeah, I was going to have the conduit and sweeps on site when they come to install it. And it really doesn't matter if it's in conduit or not, it would just make it easier to replace the cable should the need ever arise. There should be LOS in a lot of different locations but I'd rather not...
