I thought you could just plug it in and play it. For some reason or another it won't play through my pc. I've DL'd PowerDVD and the other they said is supposed to work. The computer recognizes the drive. I can even read the files on it but when I go to play it I get no response or...

Unless your still under contract. If you are under contract you'll have to do DishMover and still pay for the service even if you can't use it. That's what I'm doing....reduced my package to the minimum package until I'm ready to move into the new place. All my equipment is in storage until then.

I wouldn't think there would be a need to protect it if u can't record live TV. If there is not enough space on your archive it seems it would just not let you move it rather than writing over it. Just my humble opinion.
