    Video description

That is the "Descriptive Video Service" and has been around since about 1990. Currently shows with the D))) logo on screen at the start when the rating and closed caption logos are showing have that, and NCIS:LA is one of them. I didn't see it happen last night, but I have had the DVS just...

    Guide browsing options

That is one thing I have noticed as missing. On the old Primestar program guide, you could click on a channel and get a scrollable list of programs for just that channel. I really miss that.

Dirt -- Jonesboro, AR DMA HD locals question

If they need all four networks on the same transponder, then they should just give us the Springfield, MO networks for our out of market NBC, CBS and FOX. I am pretty sure that the transponder they put KAIT and KTEJ on is the same one that the Springfield locals are on (61.5° 18s63). Problem...

Dirt -- Jonesboro, AR DMA HD locals question

(I started typing my previous post then had to leave, then posted it upon my return, so it doesn't take Iceberg's post into account.)

Dirt -- Jonesboro, AR DMA HD locals question

The problem with that answer from RayC is that, according to the maps, the spotbeam on 61.5 that the Memphis HD feeds are already on covers the entire Jonesboro DMA. In fact, the map shows a primary and secondary coverage area, and Jonesboro DMA is in the primary coverage area. So no...

Dirt -- Jonesboro, AR DMA HD locals question

That is what I figured would happen. All things considered, if they don't change this the whole thing seems like a waste. I know I won't bother to have my dish turned right away if at all. Only reason to do it would be to be ready in case they eventually do turn on the Memphis stations in HD...

Help with an OTA setup on VIP722K

Don't forget that if the reason your mother-in-law lost CBS is because it was removed due to a contract dispute (such as the ongoing Media General thing) then, although the channel itself will be on the guide, the actual programming information will not be present, only a message about the...

Dirt -- Jonesboro, AR DMA HD locals question

I guess everyone on this thread saw the announcement that Jonesboro DMA will officially be a Hi-Def market on November 21. So, the big question will be, is it just going to be KAIT and KTEJ, or will they flip the switch so that the HD feeds from Memphis will also be available in this market...

Dirt -- Jonesboro, AR DMA HD locals question

No doubt this kind of thing can drag on for much longer than it should. I am sure that the Memphis stations don't really have much incentive (other than payments from Dish) to allow the HD upgrade since very little of their local programming or advertisement is of any use to most of us in this...

Dirt -- Jonesboro, AR DMA HD locals question

Talk about interesting timing. Got a call today from Dish. Not a sales call, but a rep who just wanted to know how things were going and if I had any comments about my Dish service. Well, I sure did! First, I want to say that the young (sounding at least) woman who called was very nice and...

Dirt -- Jonesboro, AR DMA HD locals question

As far as old receivers, couldn't they leave all the folks with old SD-only receivers on WA, and only put those with newer HD receivers on EA? Since they didn't have any locals for us on the EA before this recent change, shouldn't really matter, unless they have a policy that SDs have to be...

Dirt -- Jonesboro, AR DMA HD locals question

You are right about the AETN thing. In fact, I saw somewhere that AETN's channel 2 in Little Rock is a statewide station, so as you said there is no need for more than one feed of AETN.

Dirt -- Jonesboro, AR DMA HD locals question

Skip, I hadn't thought about the fact they were using up bandwidth by duplicating the SD locals on 61.5, instead of just "turning on" the HD feed for us. That means this all makes even less sense in terms of bandwidth cost vs benefit to subscribers. Checked some zip codes, and see that Salem...

Dirt -- Jonesboro, AR DMA HD locals question

One does have to wonder what the end game is here, if only KAIT and KTEJ are going to be HD. While I know there are a few fringe areas of the DMA that can't get the Jonesboro stations OTA, in the grand scheme of things that has to a pretty small number. I used to live in Fulton Co., about 8...

Dirt -- Jonesboro, AR DMA HD locals question

BGB73: After additional thought, I have to wonder if your tech was fully informed also. According to the uplink reports, the Memphis stations we get now off of the Western Arc have been added to 61.5 on the same spot beam as KAIT and the other Jonesboro stations, and the Market Flag for...
