I bought the starter kit at Frys for $255 after tax. The adapter is definately a must have; you can either get the kit for $400 at most places, $239 plus tax at Frys, or get the adapter by itself and either the Optoma or Viewsonic glasses, since these have the best pq at the moment for the Mits...

And the price of the packages offered. I switched from D* to E* because they have an advertised $40 package with most of the channels I want to watch. There are a few channels I miss, like Gospel Music and the NRB network that Dish doesn't carry, plus access to Animal Planet and a few others...

I switched to Dish for exactly the same reason. The only channels I miss are PBS and CW in hd, and the gospel music channel and the NRB network, but gained the Travel Channel and the MGM and HDNet movie channels. The savings are worth it to me.

I called Claude from Dishstore and he set up the appointment. No problems on the install, plus they give you a rebate by filling out a form on their site. I live in Fayetteville, btw.

I have a 2005 Samsung dlp and it has a lot of overscan on component and hdmi, but not on the vga, so I use an x2vga transconder to minimize it. I originally got the x2vga to improve lag on videogames, so countering overscan was a nice bonus.

Question about the DHPP...it's $6 a month and $15 for a service call, and $25 to cancel, while it's $95 for a tech to make a service call, correct? If my math is correct, assuming 1 call per year, it is $87 for a year for a year of DHPP and one service call $95 for a service call with no DHPP...

i had a lightning strike that fried an hd dvr and another sd receiver and had them replaced in May. I called them after reading this thread and they had added time to my contract. They added a note to my account stating that my contract due date was supposed to be in October 2009.

Good point about the channels with objectionable content. I'd like to see History and National Geographic added, but there was a "history of sex" program on history, and a "taboo" program on NG that might prevent them from adding them. I don't think they'd block evolution related programming...
