Actually, HD channels would be the first to pixellate from loss of signal because they carry more information than SD channels. DirecTV does not carry HD locals yet, so the problem wouldn't effect the local channels. Check to see if all the connections at the ground block or switch are good...

Sounds like your reciever needs to be reconfigured for your new dish. Go to Menu> Setup> Satellite> Repeat Satellite Setup> Select the 5 lnb dish and follow the steps. It should work after that

There are only 2 single LNB dishes from DTV right now, the standard 18 inch round used for both 101 and 72.5, and the world direct dish for international programming. As for the early ones, i have no idea, sorry.

Have you checked your signal meters? This might be caused by a bad line or connector on tuner 1. You could also try switching the satellite in lines and see what happens

When the dish is connected to a box, the box powers the dish with either 13 or 18 vdc to select a set of channels to be received from the satellite. The birdog only sends 13 vdc to the dish for signal finding. the channels that come off of 110 can only be received with 18vdc. Most Installers use...

Pam also works, but look out for the gnats when spring comes, they can be worse than snow. To the OP, Ask DirecTV to send a tech to re-tune the dish, unfortunatly, many installers got lazy when the Ka/Ku dish came out and treated it like a normal Multi-satellite dish when it came to alignment...

Spray some Rain-x on the dish to keep the ice from building up in the winter.
