Free HR20 from DTV after bad HR10-250? Any gotchas?

The unit would be a free upgrade because he has had the HR10-250 active for less than a year. Also, if he had the Protection Plan then all Owned replacements are for Owned receivers. If you own your equipment you will get leased receiver replacements if you are out of warranty and do not...

red button for menu not working for hotpas

Well, at least DIRECTV is stating that the H20's will get a software upgrade that makes them interactive in mid-2007. Sorry if that is a little vague but a definite date has not been set.

directv vs polaroid LCD remote codes

You can always try emailing Polaroid and asking if codes from another set will operate the unit. Thats how I found a code for the LG flat panel I have. When I emailed LG they told me to try a Sony code, it worked.

Why Does the D* Forum Have Less Participation?

I agree with Jhon69, Dish is not the angel people think they are. Remember that they had to remove the DNS feeds for failing to comply with FCC regulations and that they may be loosing the DVR's because of copyright issues with Tivo.

    New HR-20 Update... 2/17 - 2/18 Link

Yep, you have to wait for the first blue "welcome" screen to show then enter 02468 on the remote. The receiver should then display "almost there" and then go to the software download screen. If it does not go to the download screen reset and try again. This will force most DIRECTV-branded...

Currently have HR20 and 3 LNB

Both dishes use the same mast. I have the AT-9 myself but I have always found that a ounce of paranoia is work a weeks worth of headaches. If I had the option, I would use them on both the AT-9 & AU-9 if I thought wind would be problem.

    Siebel routing

Not as easy as you would think. It crashes often and is quite slow.

    HR20 - HDMI or Componet?

Personally, I have never seen a difference between using component cables and HDMI. I think that the broadcasters want you to use HDMI because they can enforce Digital Rights Management (DRM) over HDMI and cannot enforce that over component cables. Besides, all HDTV's are not compatible with...

    HR20 came with RC23 remote?

DIRECTV said that only 5% of their customers were using the RF feature, so why waste the money on RF remotes when the majority do not use them? The remotes that support RF are the RC24, RC34, and RC32RF. You can get a RC32RF from DIRECTV for $25. It's also backlit. The other 2 are no longer...

    Missing Sat's

There are actually 2 99 and 2 103 networks, make sure you are checking the right one. 2 of these networks are guaranteed failures, their satellites have not launched at this time.

    HR20 & Internet

The jack is also for the upcoming "DIRECTV on Demand" service that DIRECTV is planing. Nutshell, download content from a online movie library using your broadband connection.

So is the HR-20 worth getting?

Do not forget the upcoming HR20-100 by Thompson, I saw one at CES. (no release date for the HR20-100 has been set at this time) Oh, for my 2 cents, the HR20 is worth getting. I'm just waiting until I'm eligible for a discounted receiver again before I order one.

Currently have HR20 and 3 LNB

Well, you could try to install the 5 LNB on your own, but I highly recommend having an installer out to set it up. With the 5 LNB dishes "close" is not good enough, they must be dead-on. There is a procedure for "peaking" the dish that the installers follow.

    R15 & PiP

Sorry, the only DIRECTV DVR's that had PiP internally were the old "Ultimate TV" receivers. (DIRECTV's first DVR). None of the newer DVR's have this feature. DIRECTV's response to PiP is to get 2 receivers.

    phone problem with D*

Most likely the modem blew out. A good power surge over the phone line will do it. Last I knew D* would replace a receiver if it is tying up the phone line.
