My FIOS TV vs. DISH Compare

I'm a recent FIOS TV Sub First let me say, I was quite glad to ditch my Comcast, then recently Time Warner cable modem service for FIOS internet. That 2MB upload is nice for working from home & uploading photos. On to the TV service... I've had it a week. HD picture is great, SD's seem...

    3.82 software on the 811

Happens to me too! I called and was told it's a known issue with the firmware. If I wait long enough (like 5 mins) it clears up. I usually just do a reboot though. I love how their firmware updates break simple things like this. <sarcasm>I worry that one day an update is just going to...

Remove 9.99 HD Pak, add 6.00 Enabling Fee ?!?!

Well, that was fast. I got a reply already saying that there will NOT be a 6.00 enabling fee to just subscribe to the AT60 and continue using the OTA functions on the 811. They also said they'd waive the 5.00 change fee. So, I guess we shall see what then next bill says.

Remove 9.99 HD Pak, add 6.00 Enabling Fee ?!?!

Well, I've emailed ceo@dishnetwork.com asking for a clarification. If they say I have to pay the fee, then they've essentially removed the OTA feature I paid for two years ago, and now will only let it function if I pay this enabling fee. If that's the case, I may hold out until later this...

Remove 9.99 HD Pak, add 6.00 Enabling Fee ?!?!

I thought one of the more recent 811 updates disabled this. Has anyone verified that? I do think I'll try the ceo email and see if I can get an explanation of what's going on here. I've owned the 811 for over 2 years, so I'm well past any commitments on programming. I'm wondering if Dish's...

Remove 9.99 HD Pak, add 6.00 Enabling Fee ?!?!

Yea me too Iceberg, I thought it only applied to VIP receivers. It seems they are now trying to charge me to be able to use the OTA portion of the 811 that I own.

Remove 9.99 HD Pak, add 6.00 Enabling Fee ?!?!

I have the AT60 and decided I didn't want the 9.99 HD Pak anymore, as we rarely watch any HD except OTA. I have no plans to upgrade my 811 anytime soon, as the new HD Packs don't add anything I'm really looking for. Of course, I'll re-evaluate in 6 months or so, but the current lease deals...

did I buy or lease my 811 for $199 in Dec 2003?

I'll agree with others here... I bought my 811 in March of 2004 for $199 with the stipulation of keeping the HD pack for a year. Sounds like things may have gotten messed up for you since you were leasing other receivers, but I never recall hearing about anyone paying $199 to be able to lease...

    OTA question

This issue is one of the reasons I don't want to upgrade from my 811. Although not necessary, the guide info is nice, and I don't want to pay for locals I'm not even going to use. Of course, I assume an 811 firmware update will disable this feature in a few months in an effort to encourage me...

    811 P3.34, Scheduled for 1-10-06

Yes, Forced... Me too, I had it blocking all updates and was happy using 2.84, which had been pretty stable for me. About 2 weeks ago I notice the signal strength indicator when trying to lock an OTA station. I'd never seen this indicator before, and sure enough I have new 3.34 and now set...
