    the connection from receiver to tv goes through a Denon tuner via HDMI cables. I tried connecting without the tuner but the problem remained.

    Hipcat and Sam suggest checking the format. Not sure what you mean by "format" unless it is aspect ratio you are referring to and I made sure it was set to 16x9.

    This happens on all channels sourced by the satellite receiver. when the signal comes from the internet via wifi there is no display problem. There are only 2 of us and I am positive she is not changing anything except channels and volume. Thanks for the suggestions.
