    What we are hearing...

Errr, I thought DVR's were for time-shifting. You know...so you don't have to schedule your life around TV programming!!!!

    What we are hearing...

You have to pay for it one way or another. You are really paying for the use of something (it can't be ported over to Dish, you know), not for its ownership. Why would you want to own a receiver that you can only use with one programming source? You can pay nothing up front (still requires...

    Recommendations?

My suggestion is that you read through some of the posts here about the R15 before getting one. (DirecTV isn't providing the R10 anymore.) It isn't a TiVo. It is a fair bet you won't like it. I'd forget about getting a good deal on an R15. Even if you should get one free, the hassles of...

Want to know when D* is launching the new HD Channels?

DirecTV is not a unit of News Corp and never has been. NewsCorp was the controlling (at 34%) stockholder in DirecTV. But even that is no longer the case. To be a unit of News Corp, they would have to own 100%. They do not, and likely never will. Rupert Murdoch, News Corp's biggest...

DirecTV 10 Signal Reading Thread(Transponders are Hot!)

I think it's obvious that DirecTV was simply verifying (or fine tuning) that DirecTV 10 was in its assigned parking spot at 102.8 degrees W by broadcasting test signals on TP 11 yesterday. The bird was being put through its paces in "engineering mode" while it was located at 102.6 degrees. I...

DirecTV 10 Signal Reading Thread(Transponders are Hot!)

The smart money is on September 19. I wouldn't waste too much time over the weekend looking for new channels. The only specific date DirecTV has ever mentioned is September 19. Shareholders and investors meetings are on the 17th and 18th. Likely that DirecTV plans to announce the 19th...

DirecTV 10 Signal Reading Thread(Transponders are Hot!)

It's 103(b) you should be looking at. 103(a) is being used for HD locals spot beams. It went up last year. Not everyone gets locals on 103(a), however. Some get them on 99(b). The only transponder that has been lighting up on 103(b) is TP 11. It has been going on and off periodically for...

DirecTV 10 Signal Reading Thread(Transponders are Hot!)

You will need either the AT-9 or AU9 (slimline) 5 LNB dish. You should get 6 satellites showing up on your signal strength menu: 101, 110, 119, 99b, 103a and NOW 103b. There are actually 2 satellites at 119, but they show up as one. I'm not sure what you mean by having only 2 LNB's. Do you...

Have 98 on both of my HR20-100's on TP11 in Minneapolis

    Signal on 99 and 103???

Thanks for the further detail. I should add that 99b and 103a are currently used only for spot beamed HD locals. 103b, the DirecTV 10 satellite just launched, will almost certainly have a great deal of new content, as will 99a, DirecTV 11, to be launched early next year. The fact that you...

    SlimLine AU9 Dish Cover

My experience is purely physical--they are GAWDAWFULUGLY. The picture on the vendor's website is NOT a slimline dish. The slimline is huge--much bigger than the one shown--and that silver gunnysack over it isn't going to make it look any smaller. Why is it that snow can accumulate on a nearly...

VERY disappointed in my DIRECTV® Universal RF Remote Control

It doesn't work with either of my 100's. I have practically stood on my head in an effort to coax the RF functionality into consistent operation. RF on this model is a joke.

VERY disappointed in my DIRECTV® Universal RF Remote Control

The problem is with the HR20-100, not the 700 model you have. This is a known issue with the 100. I have two of them and RF works so badly it isn't worth messing with. Fortunately, I have a Harmony IR for my HT (works great!) and the standard IR remote is good enough for my bedroom HR20.

    Signal on 99 and 103???

True only if he actually NEEDS a multiswitch. You don't need one if all you have is four inputs (ie, one HR20 and 2 non-DVR's). If he is getting his HD locals, he is receiving 99b or 103a. Therefore, he has no problem w/ the multiswitch.

    Signal on 99 and 103???

You are not a knuckhead. First, you are not supposed to see anything but "searching for satellite" on 499. It merely indicates that you have the right dish installed and the B-Converters on the back of your HR20. Currently, 99b and 103a are used only for spot beams. You will get your HD...
