    Don't throw away dead switches

A HEXFET handles the DC switching [ultra low resistance ON state]. The RF signal passes through forward biased PIN diodes. I swap the bad FETs out when I have similar dud ported switches accumulated. The little FETs are llimited for current and can run hot to the touch. Will even burn your...

    Solid Copper Pole!

So, you downgraded their system to a galvanized [hollow] steel pole? How do you live with that? :)

Dang Hackerware in receiver...cant find channels

. Glad someone is getting the good sat deals on eBay. I'm afraid to go there, for fear of collecting any more stuff over the long winter. This hobby is a magnet for cool things. I'd never turn-down a Pansat, or equivalent. The fun never ends...

    G18 & AMC 21

Montana is there [SR:4.34], and the 30.000 SR group of PBS channels. Something on an SR of 4.444, too. I can't do HD, so no data to provide. Someone needs to blindscan using a quality dish that is known to be prime focused directly on the G-18 beam only. [check your PM's]

    G18 & AMC 21

Sound like a good thing. I'm helping some friends add FTA to their TV, and a 2 for 1 on just G-18, is great news. I'm planting several fixed dishes on non-penetrating mounts, some will be multi-fed. Pictures to come, later. [I hope more feeds will show-up on G-18. A positive surprise...

    G18 & AMC 21

I've been using a 1 meter Primestar [Channelmaster] dish to receive programming on G-18, and of course it works great. Today I rescanned and noticed PBS in the mix. At first I thought that maybe feeds were being relocated from next door at AMC-21. But, it must be my dish playing tricks on me...

    YUSA

Sad to hear the news. Receiving the signal by satellite was a wonderful thing. My mother much enjoyed it, for she was blind in her latter years, and bedridden in her final year when I cared for her. Many a night she would lie in bed enjoying the voices and music from programs she heard in...

    Signal tester

FYI: "Another great feature of the receiver is the Signal Beep Sound. When turned on, this function beeps as you lock on to your satellite signal. It's an excellent and useful tool to use when you can not physically look at the monitor while aligning your satellite dish." Fortec Star...

    Signal tester

Some Fortec models provide a user setting to switch on/off the audio tone for that function -- if you're unaware or haven't checked for that possibility. A re-flash of factory [updated] firmware is on the list too. When doing work outside at the dish, to view quality on a monitor, I've used...

    LNB conversion successful!

That's the little devil, and they are larger when used on a C-band LNB. Now you need to add a small piece or pieces taken from another DRO. [Treat it as toxic material until proven otherwise. Do not grind to release powder into the air.] I removed a puck from another LNBF and cracked-off...

    LNB conversion successful!

See post #5 in this thread for instructions to locate the archived info. Once you have read it over and if you decide to give it a try, I can provide the pictures that are now missing from my posts, if necessary. Only two modifications: The waveguide and the Dielectric Resonator Oscillator...

    LNB conversion successful!

A few pictures of your effort would be priceless! :) You were doing fine, if this was the donor unit for the DRO ceramic material. Usually the hammer is the terminator, only called for after all else has failed. That you began with the hammer shows fearless ingenuity. -sidha

    hackers bite the dust

Actually, none of the cloned IRD's in their proof of concept projects will blindscan like a Pansat 25 or 2700 can, nor will it have the RS-232 data port. Doesn't matter if all you need is something that works for FTA channels that don't change parameters or sats much. I periodically checked...

    New Guy

I'm not so sure if that model has hardware or software based blindscan, but my Pansat outperforms on that function. Might want to keep that in mind if you intend to find wild feeds. Don't worry about the BIN it came with. If it works as FTA, fine; it might even work better with the...
