    Need advice on new HD DVR receivers.

    What is more scary, is that it is a Refurbished HR-20, rather than a New HR-22/HR23. I would get the Protection Plan for when that POS dies. Also, you have a smaller Hard Drive than you would with a Newer HD-DVR.

    Tripod Mount or Pole Mount

    If it is HD, you'll only be able to use a Pole Mount (Ka/Ku Dish). DirecTV does not make a Tripod for your HD Dish. Either way, a pole is better. You'll want it to say Pole Mount. There is a difference between to two, but a 'good tech' should always have both.

    DirecTV keeps going out

    The only way to tell for sure is what your signal would look like on a 'clear' day. A Good Install varies from state to state. In Utah it is 95 on X-Ponder 1 and 100 on X-ponder 32.
