For me it was an upgrade to HD. I wanted HD dvr capability in two rooms without having to purchase an add'l HD dvr. Mvr made that possible with the bonus of on demand and streaming media from my server. The best buy $350 gift card rebate was an added bonus. Awesome deal. Loving it so far.
