    RENDER: ATSC 3.0 Analysis Software

It's the total data for each stream over the length of the capture. I haven't been able to get bitrates working reliably, as noted. It's a long and annoying story. - Trip

    RENDER: ATSC 3.0 Analysis Software

For folks with no local 3.0 signals, or who want to test out the Dev-level functions, or who want to see a signal with BPS in it, I've added a folder of test data from three of my four local 3.0 signals that can be downloaded and run through it. - Trip

    RENDER: ATSC 3.0 Analysis Software

All, I'm very pleased to announce a public release of RENDER, the RabbitEars NextGen Data Evaluator and Reporter. Most of the relevant information can be found here: RENDER [RabbitEars Knowledge Base] I've written the software for the Linux command line, but it's open source (GPLv3) and...

US FCC to consider ending merger ban among US broadcast networks

I stay away from the ownership stuff, so I can't really tell you. - Trip

KKAB-DT is now on the air in metro Albuquerque!!

They're likely misidentified. K27HP-D is a translator for KASA, for example, and they have the same channel, TSID, and PSIP. Thus the server has no way of knowing whether it's seeing KASA or K27HP-D and grabs one presumably at random. - Trip

    RabbitEars no response

Not sure how I managed to overlook it twice. I know the first time I was on vacation and then had to put our cat down. Can't really explain the second one. Updating now. - Trip

Are there any small TVs for ATSC 3.0?

No. You'll be lucky to find any device that works properly with 3.0. - Trip

    Drama and Classics Pack?

I can't speak to what the network may be providing, but I'm comfortable that the 720p listing is correct for Norfolk, Fort Myers, Corpus Christi, and probably Tucson. Santa Barbara and Lafayette are probably correct as well but I don't have recent data to verify those; they replaced CW+ with...

Allen Media to try and sell TV stations they own

This is not a thing a station can do. There is no path for an LPTV station to "upgrade" into a full-power station. They would have to go through the normal FCC rule-making process, get an allotment added to the table, then wait for an FCC auction, and win the new license, unrelated to the...

    OTA sub-channels missing

In TSReader, check if the "Hide Channel" flag is set for .1 and .2 and not for .3. (HTML Exports do not export that flag; you'll need to look at it within TSReader.) - Trip

Over 60 Local TV Stations May Soon Stop Offering Free OTA Broadcasts & Replace Them With for 5G TV if The FCC Approves The Changes.

Considering the FCC ultimately mandated sole use of the backwards-compatible standard, and only after the non-backwards-compatible standard had completely failed, I'm not sure that's really applicable here. I think the better comparison is AM stereo. There were some four or five standards and...

    Aware of the RabbitEars Outage

The server was being hammered by a poorly-behaved crawler that was not identifying itself. I generally allow crawlers to look at RabbitEars, but this was hitting it many times per second, pushing server load to about 100 (!), and was causing the "Too many connections" error message. I've now...

    More news on ATSC 3.0...

There are a lot of hard-working people at the FCC who do good things. (See my signature.) People ultimately get what they vote for though; the people at the staff level don't make the kinds of decisions that lead to big direction changes like that. And I'll point out that the Incentive...

    Aware of the RabbitEars Outage

Yeah, I still didn't get the e-mail notifications for some reason, so I only found out after a busy day at 5PM when I got some e-mails. Came up with a reboot of the server. Unhelpfully, the system log shows nothing. Just ends at 9:17AM. - Trip

    Live bandscan

I've been using the Minisforum Z83F in various places. I blow away the Windows install for Linux myself, but I've been very happy with them generally. One problem I've had is that some of them had older BIOS that wouldn't boot headless. Bricked a few trying to do BIOS updates that failed, so...
