    Cord cutting still subpar

Yes, but we need certain premium channels to make it feel like we are not just paying for local channels which should be free, so we have to get the higher-priced tiers and then seems like not such a good deal anymore. DirecTV Now seemed like the best one to start with, price & selection-wise...

    Cord cutting still subpar

My better half and I just signed up with DirecTV Now, and I have all the same complaints as the OP. The DirecTV Now app's interface is a joke. It's like someone described TV over the phone to someone who had never seen it before, and that person waited about 2 months before they tried to build...

    Issues Surrounding CUI Update

Just "me too"ing this thread. I have a Hopper 1, no Sling or Joey. Like the OP, I'm dismayed that the new UI has made almost everything not just a little bit slower, but WAY slower; it's teetering at the edge of being tolerable. There are very sluggish responses when when switching between the...

Can a replacement hopper use the original's hard drive temporarily?

So it turns out that only a small number of recordings on the EHD were corrupt, and it was just a coincidence that I picked two of them to transfer over to the new Hopper's DVR as my first test. The majority of files that I rescued from the old Hopper's drive are playable from the EHD and work...

Can a replacement hopper use the original's hard drive temporarily?

Hey, that works! Thanks! She's going to be very happy. However, it looks like I can only play recordings that I haven't yet transferred from the EHD to the Hopper. If I move the unplayable ones back to the EHD, they remain unplayable. :( Hmm... I will try again in a day or two, then.

Can a replacement hopper use the original's hard drive temporarily?

The transfers to the EHD went fine. It looks like the Hopper delays its nightly reboot until it's done with the current batch of transfers. I did have to do it in small batches because there were sometimes errors. I reconnected the new Hopper's original, unused hard drive and let it go through...

Can a replacement hopper use the original's hard drive temporarily?

Indeed...shouldn't have waited. So I attached the rest of the cables to the new Hopper, plugged it in and let it do its thing. The setup wizard took a good hour and half to do the "20 minutes" of downloading. It did 3 download/reboot cycles, with some excruciatingly long pauses at "99%" and...

Can a replacement hopper use the original's hard drive temporarily?

Clever! I went ahead did this. Without swapping the G4 cards or anything, I plugged in the new Hopper with the old drive attached, and just the HDMI connection to my TV. After a minute of "starting up", the Hopper checked my switch configuration and then tried acquiring a satellite signal. I...

Can a replacement hopper use the original's hard drive temporarily?

So the new Hopper has to be activated before I can access the DVR and copy stuff over to the EHD? Do I need to swap G4 cards?

Can a replacement hopper use the original's hard drive temporarily?

Sorry if this is a FAQ. I looked but didn't see this exact question being asked. My leased Hopper died—won't power on even after plug reset. The fan runs at top speed but everything else is dead, no lights, power button unresponsive, drive doesn't spin up, nothin'. Dish sent a replacement, a...
