Smart speakers - a little comparison

I’m using Hue in lamps and Lutron dimmers for wall switches with dumb bulbs. Easier to manage and reduces the cost both upfront and going forward I go my Google Home and Mini free with a couple of other tech toys I bought.

Smart speakers - a little comparison

I love playing around with tech and smart speakers are the latest things on the block. But which of the big 3; Apple's Homepod, Amazon's Echo, or Google's Home, is the right one to get? Actually any of the 3 could be the right one, depending on what you want to do with it. Here's some...

Google Pixelbook -- a premium chromebook experience

I just took a look. With Google Talk I can make a call with my Google number or my iPhone 7 with a simple selection. But texting is only from my Google number.

Google Pixelbook -- a premium chromebook experience

With my Apple gear I can do iMessage (now called Message) and make and receive phone calls on the computer and all my iOS gear. Really handy as I generally leave the phone in the bedroom when I'm home. Of course when I receive a phone call it gets a bit noisy since the iPad, iPhone and Apple...

Google Pixelbook -- a premium chromebook experience

If it weren't for a couple of what should be minor considerations, I could switch to a Chromebook completely. iMessage is at the top of the list. It is just so darned good! And having the ability to use my phone number and call or receive calls on all my Apple gear is great. iMessage could...

Google Pixelbook -- a premium chromebook experience

Yeah, the keyboard flip does seem strange but it works well. Like you most of the time I use mine in laptop mode.

Google Pixelbook -- a premium chromebook experience

If it is any consolation, they tend to not have hardware issues very much. My 2015 Pixel Chromebook still functions quite well.

Google Pixelbook -- a premium chromebook experience

I bought one too! I have the previous model too, though haven't used it since I got the Pixel Book. Great box with one very big flaw, a flaw shared with all of Google's Pixel chromebooks. When the warranty expires, you are pretty much screwed if you have a hardware problem. There is nearly...

    Kindle Pricing Confusion

The subscription services like Kindle Unlimited are for renting the books. With KU you can have 10 books out at a time but you can read as many as you want. Upside is only for those that read a lot, but many of the books in the program are new authors or 1st in a series types of books in...

Samsung is buying audio maker Harman for $8 billion

I can't say I'm surprised they got bought. Harman is just a shadow of what they used to be. They got out of the home receiver business after their last models that were cheapened in all ways but price, turned out to be duds in the market.

    500 million Yahoo accounts breached

I just reviewed all my various financial accounts to ensure that I wasn't inadvertently using a Yahoo password. Found a couple, they are changed now. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Apple Event: September 7, 2016

In other forums some have indicated that they got shipping info. Some even know their phone is sitting in the shippers location marked to be delivered on a specific date. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Needed: Equipment suggestions and ideas

You can record at home and transfer recordings to an iPad/iPhone if you get either the Hopper w/Sling or Hopper 3. It is quite simple and nearly bullet proof. You could then either watch it on the iPad/iPhone or get an AppleTV and mirror it to a TV. I think it can be done with Android, but I...

How Fast an Internet Connection ...

Are you using the Mediacom provided cable modem/router combo? I got rid of that soon after signing up. Initial killed the router function because I didn't want that as I have a great router. A bit later I bought a used Cisco cable modem on Amazon and the overall performance of my network...

How Fast an Internet Connection ...

I do a fair amount of streaming and as many in UHD as I can get. Doesn't take many 4K streamers to eat up some data in a hurry! :) Sent from my App Runtime for Chrome using Tapatalk

How Fast an Internet Connection ...

With Mediacom you need to look at your last 3 months useage to see if the 15Mb tier has enough data allowance. I think it is 250Gb. Sent from my App Runtime for Chrome using Tapatalk

How Fast an Internet Connection ...

15 is fine for HD but might be a bit slim for UHD. I have 100/10 but that's only because I needed a larger data cap. On the previous 50/5 things were just fine but I was getting charges for overages with the 350Gb cap. Sent from my App Runtime for Chrome using Tapatalk

I want to switch to Linux, but

I don't know enough about SDRPlay, but here's a link to using it on a Chromebook: http://www.rtl-sdr.com/rtl-sdr-radio-receiver-chrome/ I have a Pixel Chromebook and run Linux on it as well as ChromeOS. I find it a nice mix. Chrome and Chrome apps for most internet related things, Linux for...
