Free Previews and Free Channels (Covid-19 Response)

Thanks. I feel like this is something that existed in the past, but was discontinued. Guess they revived it due to current events. Sent from my iPad using SatelliteGuys mobile app

Free Previews and Free Channels (Covid-19 Response)

Anybody else notice NEWSMIX on Ch 200? I don’t recall seeing that before ... no idea if it just appeared, or if I never noticed it. Sent from my iPad using SatelliteGuys mobile app

    OTA Signal Meter

Spong, thanks for the explanation and the pic. That looks like it could definitely be useful. The ~60 Mhz span in my pic was just a value I selected for the best view of those signals. The Airspy can display a range up to ~1.7 GHz (see below). Not much value in going that wide as near as I can...

    OTA Signal Meter

Spong, I'm not an expert on the subject but I believe the Airspy device can be categorized as an SDR device -- it just seems to be on the higher-end of things. I tried one of those $25 dongles but wasn't able to observe the OTA TV spectrum. Do you know of one that works? I'd be interested in...

    OTA Signal Meter

I'm late to this thread but thought I would toss out this option: If a laptop is available, there's a nice USB device that will allow for spectrum analysis. It's from Airspy, and sells for about $170. Plug in it via USB and then run the free software available on their site. See attached for a...

    Reno, NV local channels Satellite/Transponder

Thanks, that’s what I thought. My original reply was hopefully helpful to the OP — just wanted to give him some idea of an expected signal level. Figured since I was so close, the info would be valid. Sounds like it is. Sent from my iPad using SatelliteGuys mobile app

    Reno, NV local channels Satellite/Transponder

Thanks for all the info. If I’m reading this correctly are you saying that when looking at my receiver’s signal level display for 99s/T1, it will change based on the locals that it’s authorized for? Or are you saying that I may simply be looking at a different spot beam? Sent from my iPad...

    Reno, NV local channels Satellite/Transponder

I don’t know about that, but figured it was likely that whatever was hitting my dish on 99s would be the same as what’s hitting Reno, given the close proximity. Could be wrong though, so I’d defer to others who may know better. Sent from my iPad using SatelliteGuys mobile app

    Reno, NV local channels Satellite/Transponder

FYI ... I’m in Sacramento and my signal level on 99s Transponder 1 is 98, so it would surely seem that your dish needs some alignment help. Sent from my iPad using SatelliteGuys mobile app

I thought all local channels were on spot beams?

It also should be noted that (unless I am missing something), the CW DNS feeds (394 and 395) are SD only. Sent from my iPad using SatelliteGuys mobile app

You Can Now Cancel Premiums Using the Automated Phone System

Following up on my own post: Tried the automated system again this afternoon — got a little farther as it acknowledged what I asked for (“I understand you want to cancel HBO, is that correct?”), but then it transferred me to a CSR to complete the request. Sent from my iPad using SatelliteGuys...

You Can Now Cancel Premiums Using the Automated Phone System

Anyone else try this? I just did, and it didn’t work. Automated system did not recognize “cancel premium” or “cancel HBO.” I also tried it online — HBO had a “remove” button next to it, but after clicking it, all I got was a white box with the words “Place holder for channel list,” along with a...

Not this again - the audio/video skips and pixelation

Can’t speak for all those channels, but I do see/hear this frequently on MSNBC and CNN to be sure. I have several receivers fed by two dishes — same problem evident on all. Sent from my iPad using SatelliteGuys mobile app

New Guide UI now rolling out (plus HDR support!)

This redesign looks a little goofy if you ask me. The larger font is OK, but it seems to have increased the leading (space between lines) so it is unappealing from a typography standpoint. It just looks "wrong." I don't mind when things are changed, when it makes things better -- but this entire...

New Guide UI now rolling out (plus HDR support!)

Thanks. I tried that a few weeks ago. I noticed a slight improvement, but performance still nowhere near as good as with the old UI.

New Guide UI now rolling out (plus HDR support!)

My main beef is the performance hit. It feels like a PC that’s been “upgraded” to a new OS that requires more horsepower than is available. My HR54 with the old UI was very zippy — now, feels bogged down (doesn’t respond quickly to button presses, etc).

Same here. I used to love my HR54 — now I hate it.

Hooking Up An Older CRT TV To a Genie

You can do this -- sort of. The client will be "streaming" the file off the HR54, thus the playback on the HR54 and the client are independent. If you want the HR54 and client to play in-sync (or very close), you would need to begin playback on the HR54 and the client at the same time. The HR54...
