Dish Reports a Record Loss of 413,000 Video Subscribers for Q1

I would choose Sling if they had locals. I like the lighter packages vs YTTV (what I currently have), but I need locals for news/weather and the remaining handful of shows we watch on them. OTA is very difficult to get at my house, so AirTV didn't work.

    Channel Request OAN

According to my dad: Like most cable "news" channels, the actual news isn't all that bad, even if it just scratches the surface most of the time. OANN does seem to cover more international stories than Fox/CNN/MSNBC do. Also like the other cable "news"...er, "entertainment" channels, the...

OK, everyone who doesn't get that reference, go watch Demolition Man. There are many worse things to do with your time at the moment.

    Dish's 5G plans in jeopardy?

Well, some money is cheap right now, but not necessarily the kind Charlie needs. I am not an economist either. Charlie will probably be able to get his money, but I expect it will cost him a lot more than it would have before the pandemic. Maybe he needs to start selling an IOT device that...

    Dish's 5G plans in jeopardy?

The one that has the word "source" in it once, yes. Look, I am not necessarily supporting the argument the article is making, at least not completely, but I do think it poses a good question: "Who is going to pay for Dish's ambitions in this climate of high-cost or unavailable capital?"

    Dish's 5G plans in jeopardy?

While an interesting and impressive point, could you maybe expand on the relevance to the question of whether Charlie is going to be able to get the billions necessary to put up towers, install backhaul, and attract customers?

    Dish's 5G plans in jeopardy?

Did you read the article? The FCC wasn't even mentioned. Are you saying the FCC is going to fund Dish's wireless network when Dish can't raise any money to pay for their buildout? The point of the article was the timing of Dish's network buildout is terrible because capital is drying up fast...

    Dish's 5G plans in jeopardy?

I think the question is whether there will be any money at the end of the extension to make it work.

Why are we still paying so much for sports?

While true, all of those things require in-person participation that Sports on TV does not (aside from the athletes actually playing the sports). At least at the school I work for, they are providing refunds to students for things they cannot participate in directly due to social distancing...

Why are we still paying so much for sports?

I don't know specifically about the pro sports leagues, but I know ACC schools don't get any money if the league's games aren't shown on TV. If no games are played, then no money goes to the schools. I assume it is similar for the rest of college athletics?

Why are we still paying so much for sports?

As I understand it, the sports leagues don't get paid for broadcasts of games they don't play, so the Sports channels might be losing ad revenue, but they aren't having to pay big bucks to the leagues either. All the while, the channels are still getting money from carriage fees that cable and...

Why are we still paying so much for sports?

I'm sure it all comes down to contracts, but people are starting to ask why they are paying so much money to get sports when there are no sports. This will likely push a lot more people to rethink their current package or provider, especially in the coming belt-tightening that seems inevitable...
