CBS local station audio drops issue. Is it me?

Also worth pointing out too much signal can cause reception issues with digital. A 100% signal strength may be over driving the receiver/decoder. A simple way to cut the signal is to put an rf splitter between the antenna and receiver.

    Satellite signal out?

Nothing unless you have some way to clean off the dish. Another POSSIBLE cause is if you have any barrels outdoors or a cut/slice in the cable that could allow water to get in, that could have corroded the connector. Odds are it is snow/ice build up on the Dish/LNB.

    Need advice!!

I'm not crazy about the Hulu guide. As far as I can tell, it's alphabetical, and there's no way to "jump" to channel (if you're watching ABC and want to go USA for example, you need to scroll ALL the way down). You can set favorites, but if you want to change the favorites, you can't do it...

    Need advice!!

I believe some states require a three day (or some amount of time) "grace period" to back out of a contract. You should be able to do some google searching to find out if that's applicable to you. Or, surely you were sent a copy of the contract, read over it. Get someone else to read over it...

    OTA Adapter Questions

That is done by the individual station. THEY get the information for their programming. THEY publish it (to both providers and their PSIP). MVPDs just need to collect it and pass it along.

Is it us, or is it them? (Hopper or network?)

Assuming they're automated, the people getting ready for the 5AM local news are getting ready for the 5AM local news. They're not going to pay close attention to what's on air. That's not their role. OR, if they've noticed, there's not a lot they can do except report it. If you're really...

    Trouble with OTA lately

So the distortion is still happening even with the splitter bypassed? Then yes, you need to look at other issues. 75 miles away is pretty big ask IMO.

    Trouble with OTA lately

I thought about mentioning that, but thought it might confuse issues. You are correct of course. I'm ASSUMING the test of bypassing the splitter is successful, which means either the splitter is going bad (not likely) or it's cutting the signal too much for the receiver.

    Trouble with OTA lately

First, you are TOTALLY wrong regarding how much a 3.5db loss is. db is logarithmic. If you cut something by 3 db, you've cut it in half. If you've added 3db, you've doubled it. This is not "probably", it's fact. The Decibel Measurement: A Ratio of Relative Strength - LiveAction Second...

    Trouble with OTA lately

Well, every split cuts the signal strength in half. A four way split cuts it in half twice, so you're down to 25%. Because of it being a digital signal, the quality is perfect. Until it's not. Thats commonly called "the digital cliff". As you approach the cliff, you get macro blocking and...

    Trouble with OTA lately

Next test... disconnect the 4 way splitter (tag the cables), and run the input to a single Dish receiver (use an RF barrel). Let that run a little and see if you still have the problem. You can look at the signal meter, but don't put a lot of stock in that. That splitter is cutting the...

Trying to get a straight answer

So the dish goes to the receiver via the in wall coax. Receiver feeds TV2 via in wall coaxh You don't say how TV1 is fed. I don't believe Hopper has a Coax output (to feed ANY TV). So you'd need to convert (either composite, component, or HDMI) to Coax (RF modulator). Then you'd either need...

Dish contract ends 28Apr2024 - any reason to renew?

$89 INCLUDING fees. So, $89 is what the final bill is. $97 PLUS fees. So the bill will be more than $97. So the real math is ($97 + fees) - $89 = something more than $8.

Audio and Video Intermittently Out of Sync

I find it easier to just find another show to watch if the lip sync is bad enough to bother me. Even if I had presets, "Oh, I'm watch channel 227, I need preset 1." I watch my show, turn everything off, then go to bed. The next day, the better half gets up, turns on the TV and goes to channel...

Audio and Video Intermittently Out of Sync

I hope they found SOME solution in the last 20 years. ETA: Even if this was a current a problem, adding a dedicated audio delay isn't going to work for an intermittent problem. Unless the user has some way to turn it on/off. Then you'd have to remember to turn it on/off when you go away from...

    OTA crazy

Did you reboot the receiver? I would think it's either the receiver or the tuner. Rebooting the receiver should restart both of them. You could reseat the tuner and leave the receiver on. I'm guessing it's not a cable issue. That would explain channel pixelization and drop out, not changing...

18 years and I may cut the cord!

1080 vs 720 doesn't really matter on compression. You can take a 1080 signal, only dedicate 1Mb to it, and it will look like crap. Same with 720.

OTA channels are constantly searching for signal

Can you connect a splitter and also feed the antenna to the TV as well as Dish? This is more for troubleshooting. Then, when you have the loss of signal message, switch over to the TV and see if it's having problems. I'm guessing, based on the "multiple channels" issue, it's probably cabling...

    Local channel help

I'm not sure how to suggest this, but if he's picking up the signals relatively well with a cheapy indoor, I would think you don't want too strong of an outdoor antenna. I agree a better antenna would be needed (ideally the local stations never break up), but getting TOO much signal to the TV...

    Local channel help

Just to be clear, this is what the connection from the OTA antenna should look like: Assuming it's connected to the Dish receiver, you unscrew it from there (don't get confused with the line coming from the satellite dish) and connect it to the TV (there should only be one spot to connect it on...
