    How things have changed

As long as ad sales are soft, I expect the ad-free tiers to stick around: https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-tariffs-tv-ad-sales-63e6b670?st=twHGmq&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink

    Cox, Charter merging?

Based on my address, I wouldn't be too hopeful. I have Gig available from Google Fiber for $70 and AT&T for $90 (less with autoay discounts), and Spectrum is charging $100 after the 1-year discount expires.

    Cox, Charter merging?

I was wondering about this. Spectrum is still operating under the terms of a deal with NY state where they got tons of money to build out service to rural areas that included a provision about no data caps AFAIK. However, if it technically becomes a new company, then they may try to get out of...

Streaming soon might be the only place for scripted programming

Go out of my way to not pay for it while I can. Unfortunately, it seems like all the streaming services have sports now, so my efforts are probably in vain. If you want sports, it should be an up-charge IMHO.

Streaming soon might be the only place for scripted programming

Yeah, regular season sports [other than football] don't get particularly stellar ratings, yet are pretty much the most expensive thing on TV.

Comcast’s TV spinoff company now has a name

I think pretty much everyone knows how it works. Verizon takes millions of tax-payer dollars to install and maintain landline services and then doesn't do what they promised to get the money in the first place. The big difference between this and most other companies is Verizon is a regulated...

Traditional/Streaming Live TV Providers Losses, 1st Quarter 2025 Edition

I can tell AT&T has started offering 5G Home Internet in my area. Service has really slowed down recently. If the other two didn't already suck so bad, I'd consider switching.

Help Me Replicate Channel Surfing & Trailers

Go to Youtube and search movie trailers or TV trailers, depending on what you are looking for. Also, most streaming services have a recommendations section in the user interface that uses what you've watched (and liked) in the past to suggest other things you may like. Depending on what...

TV streaming box - best ones?

Yeah, I hear ya. When we decided to get rid of Dish, I tried out all the big name devices available at the time. We settled on the Firestick because it seemed pretty stable and we liked the remote the best. After about a year, we found that the stability was deteriorating, and they changed...

TV streaming box - best ones?

There are some 5Ghz channels the iPhone won't use because they are not licensed for use in the US. Many devices will still connect to and use them, but not all. This is just one possible reason for the issue you are seeing. I actually had wi-fi issues with my Shields and had to put them all...

TV streaming box - best ones?

Hmmm...well, I guess not. When I did a search earlier, I found a bunch of sites listing the best VPNs for Roku and NordVPN was usually the top choice, but when I bothered to actually read the sites, I found you have to have an intermediate device handling the VPN access, like a router. NordVPN...

TV streaming box - best ones?

Android is definitely the most customizable. As for the VPN functionality, all the major devices (except Roku) have VPN apps for the functionality you describe.
