My brother uses them on their "Dark Star" network (ATT) and he is very happy with it.

Station ownership is the issue. We're down to just a handful of station group owners and they are slowly consolidating local programming to their regional hubs. God forbid something newsworthy happens in your town and they need "boots on the ground" to cover it.

No joy opening the URL from the M3U file in either VLC or PotPlayer, unfortunately. Typing it into a browser renders the following: I can open individual URL's from the M3U file in VLC and PotPlayer, but this isn't very useful for direct entry in a streamer or TV app; the URL is really long.

That's a solid preamp. I used one for years when I lived south of Kansas City with great success.

Have you tried adding a preamp? At your distance from the towers, it could improve reception even with indoor rabbit ears. I've done a lot of experimentation with indoor, outdoor and attic antennas, my last location was about 42 miles from the towers.

I was able to scan in 111 channels; current antenna is a 2-bay antenna mounted on the side of the house pointed at the Sandias.

In order to stream from the V9, the M3U file needs to be loaded onto the Apple TV device somehow and played through VLC. But it sounds like it works. Probably easier using an Edision, just point VLC to the local IP of the receiver. I just don't have an Apple TV to test any of this.
