Glitch while upgrading HD receiver to HD-DVR in whole home

Sure looks like it. As I remember, it appeared mounted 90 degrees clockwise from your picture and I think all the top inputs were capped off. I could probably take and upload a picture but then you'd see how badly my house needs a paint job. :)

Glitch while upgrading HD receiver to HD-DVR in whole home

Tech finished about an hour ago. System seems fine but I didn't get a chance to see their outside work until after they left. They've mounted what appears to be an approximately 10" square, brownish colored, plastic box to the exterior wall of the house, up near the dish. Although there's a...

Oh and yes, it was 776. Just checked again and can still switch channels. Message appeared but went away when I switched channels.

Glitch while upgrading HD receiver to HD-DVR in whole home

If he did anything, it had to be outside. I was with him inside and he didn't touch anything. Just gave me a bunch of yada yada about their not supposed to go on a roof, etc but he would do it anyway. Also, it was raining while he was here. I'm wondering even if he didn't fully disconnect...

Glitch while upgrading HD receiver to HD-DVR in whole home

New information. I noticed this yesterday (Tuesday) after noon. Genie now gives error 476, "problem communicating with satellite". Pressing more into says "cabling problem". "Upgrade needed. Call customer service......." None of this was happening after the tech left on Monday nor is it...

Glitch while upgrading HD receiver to HD-DVR in whole home

Just talked to the tech guy. He's coming back thursday. He said he plans on installing the swm switch under the porch roof, so hopefully that should be ok. Thanks again for all your feedback and I'll post how it all turns out.

Glitch while upgrading HD receiver to HD-DVR in whole home

You guys are a bit over my head with the SWM and LNB but I think I get the basic idea. The tech had said one reason he couldn't finish the job Friday was the switch and LNB had to be changed and they were both at / near the dish which had to be accessed from a (low) porch roof and he was not...

Glitch while upgrading HD receiver to HD-DVR in whole home

Ah, so to efficiently utilize all HHD space, recordings need to be initiated fairly evenly from each DVR & the Genie.? In other words, if all recordings were set up from the Genie , even though the DVR boxes could see and access them, their HDDs would remain in-used while the Genie's would...

Glitch while upgrading HD receiver to HD-DVR in whole home

Ok, entering embarrassing confession mode. I'd forgotten the tech had authorized the DVR from the Genie location and I hadn't checked to see if he reconnected everything at the Genie. Sure enough, the ethernet cable was still unpluged. That solved the internet connection and accessing on...

Glitch while upgrading HD receiver to HD-DVR in whole home

Yes. It shows "whole home DVR" "authorized". Then further down it lists the Genie and other HD-DVR as sharing on and deletion on.

Does that it's only set up as single tuner matter?

Glitch while upgrading HD receiver to HD-DVR in whole home

6 TV locations. Whole home with one Genie 44 & 3 mini clients + one HD-DVR + one regular HD reciever. Total of 8 tuners I believe. I ordered an upgrade of the regular HD receiver up to an HD-DVR for $99.00 They arrived yesterday and all was going well until during authorization it wouldn't...

Can I self install Genie ?

First installer didn't bring it but he never finished the install (another thread). Second installer did bring it and installed it but wouldn't take the H25 back. So I did get a free HD-DVR and as yet they haven't taken my H25 back either - even after I reminded them.

Do all new "D" customers go through this?

Update: All's well that ends well. They sent a new installer. He was here 6 hours. Ran new coax for all 6 receivers throughout this two story, 10 room house. Free swap out of H25 for HR21-700. Everything works great. All locations see one big list and can do all dvr functions. I have to...

Do all new "D" customers go through this?

All I know is this has to be costing someone a bunch of money. Total re-install, plus a free swap-up of H25 to an HD-DVR. As a customer I consider that I am buying a product / service from DirectV...........period. I expect what they advertise to be what I get and if it's not, they are...

Installer claims 'new Directv rule' about climbing on roofs - really?

I have a very similar install location issue (see thread: http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/315501-Do-all-new-quot-D-quot-customers-go-through-this?p=3217349#post3217349 ) except one installer already came and installed the "D" dish where the old "E" dish was. He also located the 8 port...

Do all new "D" customers go through this?

I know. Everyone I've talked to says the same - it doesn't make sense that they sent all the equipment to me. I really thought it was DirectV I called and the work order they emailed said "directv@directv.com" but somehow a company called "DirectSat" got in the mix. I honestly can't remember...

Do all new "D" customers go through this?

I emailed as you suggested and soon received a call from Lisa at the office of the president (of "D") ;-) Very nice lady and she apologized and assured me this will all be straightened out and she'll stay on top of it so it does. Guess I'll find out soon enough. She sounded very sincere...
