Bad experience with Directv call center in the Phillipines.

In my experience, in spite of what Jimbo has stated, I've called DirecTV over various times of both weekdays and weekends, and frankly, have only ever talked with folks who clearly do not speak English as their first language (though what's spoken is otherwise more than clear), and who've...

Switch to 4K Ready Now or Wait???

I think my comments were misconstrued if they were taken for waiting for, say, 8K or some other such technology. My point was getting folks to think longer-term, and I think that if anyone is going to get themselves a new TV today, then they need to go and get the best they can afford, along...

Switch to 4K Ready Now or Wait???

While I appreciate what rad said, I would also state that your enthusiasm over 4K might be a bit "cart-before-the-horse." 4K standards (both physical and logical) are still being worked out. Aside from major sunk costs, this is why no local station, for example, has gone to 4K (they're not even...

    New Receivers

We have never paid for such plans because we've been patient enough to wait long enough for DirecTV to upgrade us for next to nothing. You can see my signature for what we have and had. But I can say that we initially upgraded to HD only after a couple years after DirecTV went lease-only on...

10 Year Customer Looking at Switching, Few Questions?

I'm somewhat surprised they met you with those fees. But, then again, as raoul5788 suggested, you might have to wait for a bit more time to pass between the time you first got your HR44 and when you'd be able to "upgrade" to the HR54. It may also depend on how far you can push DirecTV on things...

    DirecTV app Streaming issue

While I don't have a direct answer for your issue, I can say that the DirecTV iOS app is reasonably buggy (as opposed to being solid, or as opposed to being overly buggy to the point of crashing on every other/2/3 uses). What's going on? While streaming a particular Live TV station starting...

    What are my options?

Having gone through a generally similar situation recently, here's what you need to know. If you choose to *replace* (as opposed to *upgrade*) the problematic HR24 receiver, then you'll receive whatever latest receiver for that model there would be and you would continue operating...

Not really sure where this even belongs

So, at the end of the day, can we say that the only real reason DirecTV released DirecTV Now is to reach those who (for whatever reason) can't get sat? We know it's not for cord-cutters, and all other restrictions make conventional sat sub a reasonable deal. I had high hopes for this new...

    DIRECTV in Las Vegas

Why should a business invest in change that won't be realized until later? Most cost decisions are to resolve issues now, not for things that could potentially change in major ways.

    DIRECTV in Las Vegas

Because it's not just ATSC standards. I've posted previously about this. Most high-def shops are waiting on both protocol and physical topology standards to be set before they make the same (or greater) sunk cost in 4K as they have in HD. Remember -- most broadcasters are only at 720p/1080i...

    DIRECTV in Las Vegas

They're waiting over a year because 4K standards are still getting worked out. Ask anyone in broadcasting and they'll tell you this. There is no risk in waiting; there'd be a bigger risk in making the wrong investment now.

2 Year Guarantee without qualifying service, is it possible?

Maybe I'm not understanding what you're saying, but last time I checked, DirecTV tends to treat potential newbies such as yourself better than folks like me when it comes to initial onboarding offers. I didn't think you had to have anything more than a particular video package deal (say, with a...

    How to deactivate a receiver?

Maybe they treated your return differently than mine. I scoured that box, both inside and out, including the packing slip that's wrapped in shrinked plastic on the outside (knowing exactly what you're talking about), and there was nothing. In fact, the only directions were to recycle the...

    How to deactivate a receiver?

It appears that it's all based on the receiver's serial numbers. If DirecTV wants them, they'll be able to pull each box up.

    How to deactivate a receiver?

Right. However, my initial DirecTV email upon ordering the replacement receiver said IF there was pre-paid postage and/or other inclusions, then I'd be sending things back. Our initial replacement receiver never contained any such things. From a QA perspective (my main professional domain)...

    How to deactivate a receiver?

Apparently so. I know this because I'm becoming exceptionally anal with DirecTV, as I've had to make numerous calls into them over the past weekend regarding various issues (including their own issues of hanging up on me, a CSR having a bad headset during the call and subsequently hanging up...

    How to deactivate a receiver?

As another commenter stated, call them up to deactivate. It's likely they'll want to know why, and you can have them notate the account as to why (I always ask them to do this and keep my own notes). In fact, I'm going to have to change my signature now because our HR22-100 had a whirring sound...

    New to Directv

DVR scheduling can be done via the AT&T app. As far as deleting certain schedules, I do believe that still has to be done on the actual DVR itself.

Leaving DirecTV, but no hard feelings... :)

Sounds to me like you made a great decision. One of the biggest factors is going to be Internet. As you've noticed, in today's world, DSL at anything less than 6MB is the equivalent of 21st-century dial-up, and if you're served by cable, that can always be alleviated at a pretty good...

    New to Directv

Welcome to DirecTV. Even though we've been with DirecTV for a very long time, when we had the Xfinity tech come out to install our cable Internet, even he said to stay away from the video side, as there's much more negotiation room with DirecTV than with Comcast. Regarding the UI, this is a...

    4k question

It's really unfortunate that there is a bunch of misunderstood concepts going on here. When DirecTV talks about having any sort of Internet access, it is for VoD (Video on Demand) as well as if you use your STB for app access. 4K, if it's using an Internet connection, is severely compressed...

AT&T plans to move all DirecTV customers to new streaming service

I call click-bait on this one. There are no obvious links to news reports, et al., on this subject per this particular blog post. Instead, it looks like an op-ed piece. Instead, try this on for size: http://www.tvpredictions.com/directv101316.htm

    What do you think ?

On the flip side, you usually get what you pay for. To this day, we always get better service (programming, capabilities and customer service) out of DirecTV than cable, where our cable is Internet-only due to Comcast's well-earned reputation for lacking in many areas.

    Upgrade advice, please

Regarding 4K (and to add to what's been said already): If you decide to get 4K from DirecTV, be aware that, aside from additional hardware (such as a specially-required Genie mini for 4K), you'll have to subscribe to the most expensive programming package as well. A back-of-the-napkin...

AT&T phasing out STB and Satellites by 2020?

Most of the other commenters here are correct; the sat side of DirecTV is going to be here for years to come, and I'll tell you why: 1. As others have noted, DirecTV has not hundreds of millions in sunk costs with sat infrastructure, but billions. One does not simply walk away from such things...
