Grandad Needs HD on the Cheap

Forgot to mention, I think you can still get TurboHD Bronze package for $29.99/mo, though it's no longer available on E* website. Per other posters, it will be gone as of Feb 2010, but may be grandfathered in for current subs.

Grandad Needs HD on the Cheap

On my Welcome Pack account on my owned 622, the locals are in HD, and Bravo(129), VS.(151), and NBATV(402) networks are in HD. The HD Test Channel(5710) is currently showing HD Theater. E* formerly charged an additional HD fee for the locals, but dropped the HD fee a few months ago. None of the...

Espnu or All American Direct distants in HD

Oh the pesky "Depending on your location...". I'll bet us RV'ers with home addresses on the west coast won't be able to subscribe to Chicago HD because it's in an earlier time zone. I do get NY SD now though.

What happened to Dish's "tech support"?

I called E* yesterday re: my 722 constantly rebooting randomly every half hour or so. After running switch test, unplugging from surge supressor directly into wall, etc., "tech" concludes "There is too much electricity stuck in your receiver somewhere, and you need to unplug it for 20 minutes to...

    Call from Dish Tech

Do you think E* will bug subs who have "moved" for HD and are out of the spotbeam of their SD locals? Not sure this will matter much longer since 129 is going spot. May try final "move" to Kansas City when Chicago 129 HD goes to 61.5 to get EST/CST HD on left coast as long as possible.

    What's YOUR tipping point?

Tipping point will be removal of EST/CST Big 4 Network HD Locals from CONUS 129. I.e., no more "moving". Alternative will be Canadian Star Choice, with Buffalo & Seattle HD locals. Would be there now, but their DVR is no 722.

My DVR's disk drive is not stopping

    Whoa! I have 722 + 622. 0.047 kW * 2 * 24 hr/day * 30 days/ mo * $0.34 /kWh (marginal rate in Peoples Republic of California) = $23 / mo ! Not only that, but with the progressive income tax I have to earn ~$46 to pay the $23 :)

Dish Accnt "Moved" no Phone but have Broadband...

This is good, if true. Since the SD locals I'm paying for are shown as subscribed but can't be received, I was afraid that Dish might give a "courtesy call" to fix my "problem."

Dish Accnt "Moved" no Phone but have Broadband...

I would think that Dish customers who "move" to get CONUS HD locals would have their dish receivers reporting back a lack of transponder lockup during their phone or IP connections back to the mother ship, since they are outside of the new home spotbeam. Hasn't had any effect on the account so far.

    Advice on getting waiver approved

If you understand the meaning of "Move" on this site, then perhaps you should install E* in your "RV". AAD seems to check "RV" similarly to how E* checks "Moves".

    Service address

Are you interested in broadcast networks besides the Big 4? The "central coast" is a big area, and depending on where you live SF or LA might be better. For example the SF spots (including Big 4 HD on 119) appear to go at least to halfway down the coast of San Luis Obispo County. While LA spots...

Installation of a 722 to a moved location

Followup: E* activated my new purchased 722 yesterday at my "moved" location without the 3-way call and without a request by them for a truck roll. Even though I'd never had an HD receiver on the account before, I told the Technical CSR that I already had a Dish1000 installed, had already run a...

Installation of a 722 to a moved location

If you buy from Dishstore, won't he do a 3-way call with you and E* to activate the receiver? One more reason to support Dishstore.

Selling owned Dish Receiver on eBay?

Is there any risk in giving potential buyers the s/n of the receivers so they can call E* and confirm there's no balance? I think the worst hackers are the ones that ask the ROM and Rev code of the smart card. I had the potential buyer of a 311 ask me to just ship the card and not bother...

wierd - 622 has ip address/dhcp and NOT PLUGGED IN!

No, but some customers have security concerns that their neighbors served from the same transformer could see their network if all keys are the same default value.

wierd - 622 has ip address/dhcp and NOT PLUGGED IN!

I didn't think the key could be changed by the user yet. Maybe in a future firmware rev?

    DVR Advantage now AT200 min?

With DVR advantage you will hopefully not see any additional nuisance fees. There is supposedly no lease fee on the primary receiver, which will be your new HD receiver. DVR Advantage includes one DVR fee, which will be for the 622/722 since the 501/721 never had any DVR fees. HD enabling fee is...

wierd - 622 has ip address/dhcp and NOT PLUGGED IN!

I bought one of these APC C5 Power Line RFI/EMI filter banks yesterday: http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/ASTE-6Z7V9U_R0_EN.pdf 55dB EMI isolation at each socket (40dB at homeplug frequencies). Hopefully it's overkill. Ill know when the 722 arrives 22-Aug.

wierd - 622 has ip address/dhcp and NOT PLUGGED IN!

Uh oh. I have a 622 and a new purchased 722 on the way. 2 different accounts. One here and one "moved". No piracy going on here- only one receiver on each account. The plan was going to be to connect one to the home telephone line and one to the home DSL LAN. Are they going to talk to each...

    DVR Advantage now AT200 min?

As an existing Dish customer I thought I could sign up for DVR Advantage for AT100, locals, and DVR fee for $39.99/ mo. However now the Dish website shows the minimum at AT200 at $49.99 / mo ($39.99 for new subs). Can I still get the AT100 for $39.99 ? Thanks, Tom

Can existing customers upgrade from an owned VIP622 to an owned VIP722 for $199 ? I'd think not.

HD LIL on 129 CONUS how much longer?

For those in the know, what is the best guess of how much longer HD LIL will be on 129 CONUS before they all go on spot beam on a different bird? Is it years away, months, or ??? I'm thinking I'll have to go to Canadian satellite when that happens for my bicoastal HD LIL.

SD Locals Pan and Scanned ??

The first day the Letterman show was broadcast in HD on CBS, Dave said "And now we have a treat just for our new HD viewers". Regis Philbin walked into the left side of the 16:9 frame and Dave shook hands with him. In SD 4:3 all you could see was Dave's arm reaching past the left edge of the...

American Idol & KTVU San Francisco

On my 622, the HD channel in the 6000 range was dead (and channel 2 is mapped to that) but the SD channel in 8000 range was fine. The All American Direct channel 537x was also OK :) I always check SD if HD is flakey, and SD is often OK.
