    Internet Radio Coming to FIOS

I'm pretty sure it's available to all DVRs - not just the Home Media versions. You just need the upgraded Media Manager s/w on your PC. I've been using the radio feed. It works amazingly well - great sound quality, actually.

Is Verizon Losing Money on FIOS?

I'm sorry, but this is a flagrantly silly posting. Verizon is in very good shape financially. Most companies can't afford to make a $23 billion investment like FiOS. In fact, I give them many kudos for rolling out FiOS - it shows a long range thinking that is rare in many companies these...

Is Verizon Losing Money on FIOS?

Verizon has already been rolling out FiOS Digital Voice. I don't know if it's available in all areas yet, but it has been there for a couple months now. As for losing money - yes, there is an initial investment that all these companies make when signing someone up. Someone has to pay for the...

    FIOS deleting channels question

Yes, you can do that, in a way. Set up a favorites list that has the channels that you get. Then you can set you favorite list to be active. When you do that, then only the channels in that favorite list show up in the guide, and they will be the only ones that you hit when channel surfing...

Anybody got the on-screen Caller ID yet?

I've heard of other people having the exact same problem. The solution for them appeared to be resetting the box - not just unplugging it, but actually having them reset it, which you can do via your My Verizon account.

    3Q 2009 Quarterly Earnings Report - October 26, 2009

I'm just repeating what I read in the Verizon press statement about the numbers. They're claiming that the lower-than-expected numbers are due to cable being more aggressive. I'm interested to see what this does to the profitability of some of these cable companies. Gaining new customers...

    3Q 2009 Quarterly Earnings Report - October 26, 2009

Well, not as high as anyone predicted - "only" 191,000 for this past quarter. They're attributing it to cable being more aggressive.

FIOS to be handed over to Frontier in WA

No... that's absolutely not correct. The service will all be under Frontier. No one is sure what Frontier is set to do, or what Verizon will do leading up to the transition... with a couple minor exceptions. For example, Frontier has agreed to finish the build-out of fiber per existing franchise...

TiVo files patent infringement lawsuits against AT&T and Verizon

Just FYI, here are some of the details of that one particular patent: Automatic playback overshoot correction system - Patent 7493015 Again the patent isn't on over-shoot compensation per se. It's on the algorithm that learns from the user where to place the buffer when coming out of ffwd.

TiVo files patent infringement lawsuits against AT&T and Verizon

You mean aside from the fact that Tivo ran a net loss of 7.7 Million in 2009 YTD? The big difference between Microsoft and Tivo? Microsoft is profitable... Tivo isn't. Tivo is a tiny company, losing money, with a small cult following. Microsoft is one of the world's largest, and most profitable...

TiVo files patent infringement lawsuits against AT&T and Verizon

I don't know anything about the other two patents, but with the one you reference here, there is no way TiVo wins this. The patent isn't on over-shoot per se. Meaning that Verizon just having over-shoot compensation doesn't violate the patent. From what I understand the patent is on the...

    Thinking of going to fios.

All companies have different pricing strategies. For example, CableVision charges you extra for VOD feeds... and if you want premium channels, it costs you a small fortune on CV - and yeah, they charge you EXTRA to get the VOD for your premium channel. In contrast, Verizon includes VOD with...

    EPIX is coming to FiOS!

Epix HD VOD is now up and running. I count over 50 movies currently available on demand. Some are older, and some more recent, and it's listed as a free preview.

    Home Media DVR Experience?

It can feed up to 7 TVs total - including the one with the DVR. It can feed up to 3 (including the one with the DVR) at the same time. It's really only limited by the number of IP-addressable boxes you can have. Verizon's architecture allows for 7 of those (which is really a limitation of the...

    Home Media DVR Experience?

Oh yeah, and one more nice feature - you can resume playback from another STB. Say I start watching a recording from my DVR directly. I can stop/pause it, and pick up right where I left off from one of my other STBs.

    EPIX is coming to FiOS!

Yes, it's an HD channel. They're also going to have internet feeds, and VOD feeds available as well.

    Home Media DVR Experience?

I have it and I really like it. Here are the specifics of it. First, what you heard is correct - you can't feed DVR to DVR yet (although I understand that's coming). You need to have an STB on one of your other TVs to get the recordings (either the SD STB - the QIP2500, or the HD STB - the...

    Ready to pay MORE?

This isn't new - Verizon announced their new internet tiers at the end of June. With that came new bundle prices. That's what this article is referencing. Yeah, it sucks, but at least you are getting more than you were before. For example, I'm currently paying $110/month for their Extreme HD...

    Leaving Verizon territory ...

You probably won't get charged anything for ETF. For all these service that have a contract, there's a clause which says that if you move to an area where service isn't available it nullifies your contract terms. So, if you have DirecTV, but move to a house where you absolutely can't get a...

    2Q 2009 Quarterly Earnings Report - July 27, 2009

And the winner is... 300k: Verizon Reports Revenue Growth and Continued Improvement in Cash Flow in 2Q - Verizon at Home Blog - Verizon Community Forums Very impressive. Now up to 2.5+ million TV subscribers.

    fios pre-installation

Couple points. First, make sure your cable splitter is rated up to 1 GHz. Most off the shelf splitters can't handle the appropriate frequency for many of Verizon's channels. Second - yes, they can (and usually do) screw the power supply and BBU into the wall. The power/BBU units tend to be...

    Switch to FIOS from Dish

Yeah, you should be able to do that yourself. Run the cat5, but you still need to have the router connected to the cable tv splitter (to feed the vod and other ip feeds for your TV service). Then call Verizon to switch over the connection on your ONT to ethernet. I believe they can just do...

Verizon Nets Another 299,000 FiOS TV Customers

No, you don't have to wait for your contract to be up, but your area will need to negotiate a franchise agreement with Verizon before they can roll in. Many areas had to change their laws to allow a service like FiOS in, because those areas gave your cable company protected monopoly status...

    Switch to FIOS from Dish

Oh, one more thing - when you get set up, check out: www.verizon.com/fiostvcentral You'll be able to do some pretty cool stuff from there - you'll need a log in to get access to most of the functionality (which is the same as your My Verizon account, if you have one - if you don't then I'd...

    Switch to FIOS from Dish

I'm hoping that we'll see it this year. Verizon is not the swiftest when it comes to s/w updates, but from my experience (coming from DirecTV) they're pretty well-tested (yeah, some new bugs get introduced, but it's nothing like what I went through with DirecTV). It should just be s/w based...
