I know exactly what you're talking about and I dont think it has anything to do with your system components or cables. My guess is that these are artifacts caused by poor encoding of the HD signal or excessive digital compression during broadcasting. It will probably vary from channel to channel...

Are you by any chance using the DVI output of your Voom receiver?

UPDATE: So the installer came over with the "other" DVI cable that was supposed to fix the drop out problem... well, its the exact same cable that came free with the Voom receiver. Needless to say, it didnt fix anything. Any other bright ideas Voom? :)

jonkomar, I'm curious about this as well and I know exactly what you're talking about. Currently the menu on my stb shows "1080i". At one time it did say "1080i DVI". (I'm connected via DVI). Not sure why it went away. Let me know if you figure it out.

Samsung HLP-5085W DLP

The DVI cable is from bettercables.com (Display Magic 3m) But I have other DVI cables that I've tried as well with the same results. If I hook up either box via component there are no dropouts at all...on any channel. Btw, if I hook up my DVD player through the DVI input, its perfect...no drop...

UPDATE: I connected the second Voom receiver and although it has much fewer dropouts than the receiver I was using, the screen still blacks out randomly every few minutes on various channels including locals and others such as Discovery HD and Equator HD. Do you still think I should have Voom...

Seemed to happen on every channel I was looking at, but I didnt try all of them. I called Voom about it and the rep said they new about this and it would be fixed with the new DVR box coming out. (???)

Is there a fix for this? When connected via DVI the screen blacks out for a second or so randomly every few minutes. No problems using component. My STB has the 620 software and I have a Samsung HLP-5085W DLP.
