I am beginning to think that these boxes don't put out 4k, unless they are playing 4k content. My hopper and my joey, on both my 4k sets both show 1080p in the diagnostics tab in settings. I thought these boxes upconverted everything to 4k. Neither of my tvs are detecting 4k signal.

It should be set to on. You'll only see any difference, when the source material is broadcast in HDR.

First, for Samsung, you have to have a tv that supports HDR. A JU9000 with a SEK-3500 upgrade, or a JS8500 and up. You have to set in your inputs, the UHD setting to on. Then that HDMI input will automatically enable HDR when available.

No such thing. The testing requirement for 4k certification has been adopted, but they are still working out how to test for compliance. Right now HDMI cable are tested for 10.25 Gbps for 1080p. The certification will require 18 Gbps. But there aren't any, to knowledge, as of yet on the market...
